My cats do that also.
They all love boxes.
And it seems like the smaller the box, the more they like it. Probably makes them nice and cozy.
Another thing my cats love to play with is the plastic ring off of a gallon of milk.
And the twisty ties off of a bag of bread.
It's the little, cheap, things that make them happy ;)

OMG your cat does the same that my two other cats do. We have very fat cat and last week he was sleeping on the kitchen table in a shoe box minding that he barely fit in it. And the other cat when we first got her i brought pop home from work in a cardboad carrier like the one from subway. Well the handles are on top of it and she climbed in it and layed down in it.

this is an easy practice to eradicate clear you,r house of shoe boxes and i guarantee the cat won,t do it again
