No. It is a ridiculous statement. To begin with, MLS is not considered a top-3 sport in the country, and with the NHL back, probably not even a top-4 sport. That isn't even including major college sports like basketball and football. The MLS has seen ratings increase since Beckham and attendance has skyrocketed, but not to a point where it is rivaling top sports. Right now, the big story is still football, football, football and baseball playoffs. Beckham's injury is a sidenote, as in years past it would earn a blip in a newspaper. Also, Beckham has played very very well in the games he has been able to play. Beckham is too good to be a mascot and the MLS is not an important enough league where our country's mascot can be chosen from.

Some MLS fans got worked up, because I posted this answer to some else's question...but it was fun so here goes the reply. I think it fits the question here.....I thought by now, it would be completely clear to all of us that Beckham is not here to play but to sell the MLS to any dope that will buy into it. Example - exhibtion game versus the English Club Chelsie. It was completely sold out, job well done Beckham, Galaxy, or should we say uncle AEG. Lots of dopes bought into it. All of Hollywood was there and the ticket prices were throught the rough and the poor southern california crowd who knows nothing about futbol was there. LoL...to funny. The guy may very well be injured or not. I think not. Did Real Madrid not just win the LIGA championship and if I recall correctly wasn't he playing? Well the point is, MLS has been trying to sell tickets and gain interest but the reality is no kid growing up dreams of one day playing for the Columbus Crew, New York Redbull, or Galaxy....lol again to funny. Every kid who plays dreams of playing for Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter, the Brazilian national team, or my favorite CHIVAS de Gudalajara, Mx... MLS has done a bad thing, now they have sent the message "All Euro Stars who are in the last 2-3 years of your career come play in America, we will pay 250 million" If you ask anyone with some know how of the game, you don't buy passion and glory. You earn it, and the MLS is far from it. Don't be dissapointed my friend. Your not the only one upset with Beckham and his antics. I'm upset as well to see him play 30 minutes then come out in a nice suit only to see his sorry team loose to a bad *** 5 cup winner in 18 months Pachuca. My advise to you, switch leagues. Dump the MLS. There is more choices that are worth your time......LOL...laughing at MLS

He showed up at Foxboro, MA. People came from as far away as Mexico to see him play. Granted, it was an American football game (Patriots) and he was there for show. Not once did he get into the playing field, even during half time, or when they introduced him. Even just to kick a ball or two. People were expecting it after all the hoopla that was made about him being there. He just hung out in the stands. People took offence to this. Before you knew it, it was all over the news that he wasn't really here to play, but to show his face and live off his reputation.

It may well be true but a lot of America's economy is built on same. The only difference is most of the others end up in rehab and not on the examining table of a doctor of sports medicine.

everyone knows he's here just for show. He is washed up over in England, and hes just getting older, and isn't good enough to keep up with the younger players. The news made a huge ordeal about him coming over, and he was injured. The first game he played in for L.A galaxy, the stands were sold out. not to see the game, just to see him, and he only played about twenty minutes. Sure, he is a good player, but it angers me to see him playing in the MLS. He draws attention to himself, in hope of making the MLS big, but in reality all he is doing is bringing in fans just to watch him, and noone else.

He could be doing some thing ideal to earn the earnings. it particularly is a shame that his fulfillment breeds such jealousy. I, for one, know his achievements and have no reason to criticise him. the persons who do slate him could exchange places with him interior the blink of an eye fixed, in the event that they'd.

he's the only professional sportsman in the US whom anybody else in the world actually knows/cares about. Therefore he is their mascot, albeit an expensive one. the world doesn't care about baseball or basketball or whatever they play there
