Well, I'm reading the book too now. I've forgot everything..When the troll appears at school, Snape thinks might be someone want to go to get the stone. Thats why he goes to the room to catch the person who responsible for that.

Harry and his friends saw Snape as a suspicious professor. The theory is Fluffy is guarding the philosopher's stone from Voldemort. In the perspective of Harry James Potter, Professor Severus Snape wanted the stone made by Nicolas Flamel, that is why he is injured. Logically speaking, it was actually Quirrell who wanted to go through Fluffy for his parasitic master "Voldemort". Therefore, Severus Snape is just a deciever of Quirrell.

It never actually says Snape tryed to get plast fluffy that is just an assumption that Harry,Ronald, and Hermiimie make. Realizing that the troll was a distraction to steal the stone, and then they see Snape later with an injury they make that assumption
