laymans guide to create a website

1. You need a webspace at web hosting server.

Recommended :: GoDaddy http://www.godaddy.com

Free webhosting:: Awardspace,freeservers,netfirm...

http://www.awardspace.com/
http://www.freeservers.com/
http://www.netfirms.com/

2. You need a Domain Name

like www.yourwebsite.com

Again Godaddy offers Domain names at lowest price available. You can get your website.info for as low as $ 0.99

Well, you can have free domain name like yourwebsite.awardspace.com with free webhosts. or you can redirect your paid domain towards free webhosts.

3. Web Designing

If you know Html +javascript+flash its a cakewalk, but if you are not equipped, there are loads of free web-publishing softwares available.
Here are a few for the layman:

Rapidwebsite

get free software

You can design a website by just creating a MS.Word file with same name of your buttons on webpage and they'll contain all those texts.Besides, you can insert pics in .doc file too. If you are aware(remember first page should be INDEX)

When your website is done take it out of your TEMP folder in
Document settings>>User>>Local>>TEMP
OR
you can put your website directly by in built FTP on *rapid website*

a4desk

This one is a cool , free flash website maker that you can try

4.Next you need to upload your designed website files on webhost.

You can use any of the free FTP softwares like:

CuteFTP ----just punch in your domain name +user id+password to enter the server by simply connecting at FTP.

Now can put your website pages ..and you are done!

Note:: Always keep the folder structure of your designed website in your mind while loading it at server.

Cheers:)

You will have to find a company to host your domain. There are some places that can do this for free (such as Yahoo Geocities), but this may involve the inclusion on numerous ads on your site. You ISP (internet service provider) may provide you space to host your site, so you can check with them.
Finally, you can purchase a domain name and web hosting space from a place like Yahoo, Go Daddy, or many others. Many of these will group together registering a domain name with the web hosting. This is the method you will have to use if you want your own website name, such as www.myveryownsite.com.

Once you have chosen how you want to do this, Dreamweaver has an excellent FTP tool to help you load your site up. You will have to use the "Site" option up top, and then select "New Site." There are too many different options as to how you will set this up for me to explain here, and the help section can guide you through this, but many web hosts, especially if you are paying for the service, will offer phone help 24/7.

Good luck!

Yes you need to choose a Host.
I use Yahoo's Geocities, they charge by the amount of space your require.
There are literaly hundreds out there but I can't speak for there reliability. Geocities has been flawless and they offer full service.
Domain,
Hosting,
Free Software for Development,
and there are NO Suprises.
