I heard you could use that cord that has the 3 colors, Red white and yellow, but I cant figure out how to get my NES to work.

When I got my first NES and fixed it, it was missing all the hookups. I had a spare double AC cable and AV adapter. I was able to plug in the white cord to the RF switch to get it to work. If it doesn't work (it has a blinky red button or the screen stays a solid color your 72 Pin is out and you'll need to either;
1) scrub it and possibly salvage the 72 pin
2) Buy a new Pin for about $10
