I enjoy them but I wish they were not so graphic sometimes. I like the older ones more where they leave it up to your own imagination. I know this dates me but I would really like other opinions. Thanks.

...I don't think that graphic violence and gore is going anywhere soon; it's pretty much been around since the old European 'Grand Guignol' stage shows in the early 1900's, where these acts of violence were performed before a live audience...

...if you think about it, it's sort of hypocritical, as far as human nature goes; the general masses don't necessarily like to dwell on the subject, and in fact, out-and-out deny any attraction to it; yet the box office numbers just keep growing and growing, from the curious masses, who continue to venture to these films, if anything, just to see how far the filmmakers will go...or if you like, how low will they go...

...this is the same general masses who once upon a time, flocked to the Roman collusiums, to see criminals and slaves torn apart by lions...or if you will, the same ones who today, rubberneck passed a horrific and ugly traffic accident, in hopes of glimpsing something juicy...

I can appreciate the skill and artistry of the make-up and special effects artists, who go to the utmost and outrageous lengths, to make things look as disgustingly, yet compellingly real as possible; yet, at the same time, I can REALLY appreciate a filmmaker, who can produce and edit a film in such a way, that as far as the graphic violence and gore, they will let me use my imagination, and let my mind 'fill in the blanks', for lack of a better term...

...after all, what one can imagine in the mind, can sometimes be much more grotesque, ugly and disturbing, as what one might see flickering on the silver screen...

There's definitely too much gore today. It is possible to have a scary movie without too much disgusting imagery. For example, 'The Ring' scared the sh*t out of me, but the most disturbing thing in that movie (in my opinion) was the fingernails Naomi Watts found in the well.

No. No. No. Gore is king. I hate that Blair Witch leave it up to your imagination crap. I don't pay eight bucks to use my imagination. I can do that for free.
