Flags of Our Fathers by James Bradley. One of the best books I have ever read, and one that I think every American should read. I'm not American, but if I was I would consider this book to be a national treasure.

looks like you're a Stephen King fan... great series the 'Dark Tower' and a great opening... i don't have a favourite opening to any book, but you seem to have great taste!
