You can reset the Presario 2100 manually, but I don't think that it will solve your problem. You can hit CTRL+ALT+DEL twice; you can hold down the power button for four seconds; you can insert a pen or paper clip in the small button on the bottom of the laptop.

If your left mouse button does not work, then that is probably a hardware problem instead of a software problem. The easy repair is to purchase a separate mouse, either USB or PS/2. (Your computer has both connectors.) You may have to replace the Top Case (fairly simple) or the Motherboard (not for the faint of heart).

I have attached a link to a Service Manual for the Presario 2100. It is in PDF format. It will show you how to conduct basic repairs of your laptop. Click on the first link that I listed and open "Service Manual." I also listed several other links in case your Presario is one of the many subsets that are out there. (I linked to a Compaq Presario 2100 with an Intel Celeron CPU, but there are very few differences in the design and parts.)

I have a Compaq Presario 2100 myself, and it is fairly easy to work on. Good luck!
