Taxes are necessary and ARE legal (not law)according to the U.S. Constitution Amendment XVI which grants the power.

"The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several states, and without regard to any census or enumeration."

edit: It's hard to imagine that some are disillusioned enough to think a President can abolish the IRS. Great talking point to gain a few supporters but unrealistic. When they re-implement another office to take care of the taxes, it will be the same thing as the IRS with a different name.

You are partially correct. Personally, I only pay the taxes that I am legally subject to and liable for.

Unfortunately, most Americans don't have the time or intelligence to read through the thousands of pages of confusing information that would inform them of what you are trying to say.

Except, I must correct you on two points - the Constitution does not contain laws; that is not the purpose of the Constitution. Nonetheless, you are correct in saying there is no law (in the US Code) saying citizens must pay a FEDERAL income tax. Some (not all) state income taxes are perfectly legitimate; there is a large difference between state and federal income tax. You are talking about federal income tax, not state income tax. When 'state' is used to describe the entire nation or federal government, it should be capitalized and appear as 'State'.

Americans pay an illegal 'income' tax taken from their wages because they're gutless, gullible and greedy.
If most Americans would simply refuse to file income tax returns, refuse to allow their employer to deduct from their paychecks, and refuse to pay any wage tax, there would be nothing the IRS could do to enforce it (there are less than 60,00 IRS employees and more than 150 million U.S. wage earners).
'Income' earned from capital gains, investments, and real estate could - and should - be legitimately taxed. Taxes earned as compensation for labor is not 'income'.
But if the tax system was set up that way, corporations and wealthy individuals would be the only ones paying taxes, and they have ensured that such 'unfairness' won't happen. It's time for American taxpayers to gather up some collective courage and refuse to pay their taxes. There is strength in numbers - and the government cannot possibly convict and jail hundreds of millions of citizens.
All the IRS has on its side is FEAR. If enough people remain afraid, the government will continue to rape and pillage. As long as we are afraid to stand up for our rights (like corporations and wealthy industrialists do), we will continue to allow ourselves to be nothing more than indentured servants of the U.S. government.
As Benjamin Franklin (or was it Jefferson?) once said:
"When people fear the government, it is tyranny. When government fears the people, it is liberty." -RKO- 09/01/07

It depends what you define as "income". If the true definition is used, income is what you derive a profit from. So yes, capital gains, real estate sales, etc, should be taxed. The problem lies with classifying Wages as "income". Since wages are compensation for labor, that is a direct exchange and no profit is derived. Hence, wages should not be taxed.
Don't fall for the same trap that the courts have already squashed.
Persue it on the basis that wages aren't income.
It works....

There's no law of any kind in the Constitution. No tax laws, no traffic laws, no criminal laws, no laws at all. Have you ever read it? You pay taxes because the IRS code mandates it as passed by congress which is the only branch allowed by the constitution to create federal laws and levy federal taxes. Most traffic, state tax and criminal codes and laws are passed by the various state legislatures. You really should do some homework on how this government works. Jeez.

Well, Ron Paul would get rid of the IRS if he were elected President.

The constitution says it's illegal. So I agree with you on this issue big time. The big question is, are we willing to go to jail over it or are we willing to (that is, the American public as a whole) stand up to the government and just say no to taxation without representation?

It would make more sense to have a federal sales tax. That would reward those that save a portion of there earnings.

tax is a very necessary part of builting a strong nation and economy. if the system is not working, then you need to look at the reasons why. in the philippines, corruption and lack of long term investment plans are the reason why you might be pissed off. also, the philippines needs to alow people to firtsly, follow an individulistic path, coupled with a healthy level of collective resposiblity. these 2 formulars are what has led the rest of the western would to their riches. also, it is time for the philippines to let go of their disfunctional dependance on the US. the US has beniffitted from philippine poverty for long enough. time to move on.

because if you fight it like some have you end up with people on the jury who have the ideas of I pay it you should to and vote guilty weather the law actually says you are or not. when you fight it you fight personal opinion not the law and personal opinion will almost without fail get you jail time.
however if we were to not pay it this country would be in dire straits its not that we shouldn't its that they should make it law.
