Quit putting it on standby which turns the power to your network card. The puter will not do a "handshake" with your network card coming out of standby unless you tweak it to leave your lan on. You may wish you weren't so lazy when someone hacks your unattended internet connection while you're sleeping.

Are you the network administrator?

It sounds to me that you are not.
Is your computer located in a work situation where there are many computer terminals and only a certain amount of available connections?

It is possible that the administrator has set out a prudent rule that any terminal which is on standby for a few minutes will be cut off from the internet and/or local area network..

At home where you are the only user and you are paying for 24-7 connection, you can stay on line as long as you wish. Again, are you the only user? administrator?

If the answer is yes twice, just go to properties on your main screen, make sure you have firewall, and all antivirus software and activate a screensaver that will protect your monitor . Leave the computer on .Many people do.

Go into your system settings and make sure it is set to stay connected on the LAN when in standby mode. I never shut my pc off, I just kill the monitor. I just reboot about once a week when things start getting a bit slow. A PC doesn't use much electricity, so turning the monitor off will save plenty of energy.

Some network cards, both wired and wireless, do not like being placed in sleep mode, and may have trouble coming back automatically.

You could try to disable and re-enable your network connection in the network configuration panel... that might help you get it back.
