I recently bought an HP laptop, and sometimes it'll ask me for the product key for Microsoft Office Word. Where can I find/get this product key?? And what it is?

My guess is your computer came with a 30 or 90 day trial version of Office preinstalled. Once that trial period expires, you must enter a product key (which you obtain by registering your copy of Office and paying the retail price) or the programs (Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc) stop working.

I always uninstall free trial software- it just wastes disk space. If you want a free alternative to spending $400 on Microsoft Office, try OpenOffice.

It should be in the packet that came with your laptop. A lot of new computers come with a free trial of the software so if you've had it about 3 months your free trial may be coming to an end and you won't have a key for it. It should show what you got with the list of software that came with your laptop.

You can get the product key from microsoft.com. Its not free.
or else try open office.org. a similar software even more advantages like exporting pdf formats etc.

If you want office 2003 you can download it from microsoft office download web site free of cost but for a specified period only.

It will come in the paperwork that came with the laptop. You know, the pieces that say "Do not lose this...". I hope you didn't lose this.

Sometimes, the product key is on the bottom of your laptop on a sticker. It will say "Microsoft Office" on it somewhere.
