I have a bannana palm plant and i am worried about the change of weather on theway.how can i protect it .?

is it a banana plant or a palm plant?.... is it in a pot or in the ground?....reason I ask is that a hardy banana plant can stay outside in most places even tho it dies to the ground, it will come back in spring..... palms, unless you're in FLA, need to be potted and brought inside or into a greenhouse....can tell you more if I know what you have.......
