Why did his party want him to resign? Was it:

1) he pled guilty to disorderly conduct

2) They thought he was cheating on his wife

3) they thought he was gay

FYI, I'm a liberal Democrat and I can't for the life of me figure out how you can arrest someone for tapping their foot, and running their hand under a bathroom stall door.

And if he was looking for sex, there are obviously issues with his marriage, but why is it against the law to seek sex. Are men ever arrested for trying to pick up women in a bar?

4) None of the above.

He is now a shining example of Conservative Hypocrisy.
Since he's a political liability, the Republican party has cast him aside like a used condom.

Number 3 and the fact that Idaho has a Republican governor helps fuel their feigned moral outrage. David Vitter, (R-La) admitted that he committed practically same crime (with prostitutes )and yet to date hasn't been charged, there has been no major public outcry and Cons are not falling over each other to demand he resign. Why? Louisiana has a Democratic governor. If a Senator does not complete his term, the governor picks the replacement in the two states in question.

You make wonderful points--I would hope that the phenomenon of arresting people for just being on the prowl doesn't spread, and I hope the real stories of entrapment come out from this.

That said, I think the Republicans are upset because, once again, they look foolish and hypocritical.

It is better to be rid of him. If he wasn't bright enough to ask for a lawyer right away, or even smart enough to plead not guilty (no crime was committed) then he has no business making decisions in the Senate.
His sexual preference isn't anyones business, either, unless you're a self righteous Liberal crying about hypocrisy.

Libs invented hypocrisy.

That the party of the moral majority has a sexual devient as a Senator in their ranks. These type of scandals hurt the party at the voting booth, no doubt.

I am loath to condemn a man on such circumstantial evidence...but if he is guilty of soliciting sex in a bathroom while married to someone else then that's all I need to know to understand that he is not who I want to lead Americans...if it was gay sex, straight sex, it does not matter to me...He made a promise to his wife, a vow actually, and he broke it. Why would his promises to strangers (the people he represents) mean more to him than those made to his wife?

It was because it was another hint which would expose the truth about the party of the color of blood, which is HYPOCRISY.
