Why do people in here constantly ask questions in here that relate to the operating system, such as asking for software recommendations, without telling the operating system? I simply cannot understand it. Are they not actually seeking help, but rather seeking to drive us crazy?

My guess is that they assume " we " are all using " their " version of Windows.

Hello, Tux.
"People" assume that everybody in the world uses Windows XP or Vista, depending on which one they use. A few "Other People" assume that half the world uses osX and the other half uses older Macs and Windows, but that you can tell they use a Mac. One in ten people is smart enough to know that there are many versions of Windows and MacOS, and sometimes even recognize Unix/Linux systems like Ubuntu and Fedora.
In fact, some people assume that the problem doesn't relate to their operating system at all but is universal to all computers. Some people even assume that "everything is possible" if a nerd does it so they ask anyway.

They assume we already know that they're using Windows XP because majority of people are using this OS for the time being.

Only people who are using other 'rare' OS such as Windows 98 for example will state their OS.

I can see that people that ask those kind of questions are kinda, how do i say....."Computer Ignorants"

If they don't know what is an OS (Operating System), and they are using a computer with one, they should blow their head off.

Hope this helps!!

Yes, most people have no clue that other operating systems even exist.... They assume Windows is just Windows, and has always been.

Linux? Wasn't he a character from Peanuts?

Iphone because security to me is the most important thing. No virus checker needed like other phones need, and you can install as many apps as you want without worrying about any of that malware junk. They also have the best apps by far, many free and many for just $1.

because

A: they don't know it matters
B: they don't know what one is (you don't need to know what an operating system is to use a computer, people would not go to if they hat the answers)

because they aren't computer literate as we or maybe they are LAZY.
i asked this type of question before, some1 got defensive with me, telling that "not all people know computers as you do" and its lame excuse

bottom line PEOPLE LEARN, if you don't want to STAY IGNORAMUS
