One would be to end the monopolistic practices of a few gatekeeper corporations in telecommunications.
Japan has broadband 30 time faster and provides for far less than in the United States. Why?Because the Japanes changed their laws to make internet and telcom competition more open, enabling start ups and small business to get involved. This made competition accessible to many, not just a few large corporations. They got this idea from us.Unfortunately, since then, the Bush Administration has rolled back these regulations and given huge companies like AT&T and Sprint virtual control of telecommunications and broadband in this country. This has only served to stifle development and has enabled pricing that is much higher than would be the case if true competition were allowed.
This is just another example of government protecting big business to the detriment of the consumer.

Even though, I'm a big liberal, I'm starting to move as a conservative at he Federal Level.
Healthcare for example- I'm all for socialized medicine in my state, NY, but absolutely not at the federal level. I don't think there's one plan that will work for everyone in this coountry. The Fed should reform MedicAid so it funds only stated that somehow see to it that all residents are covered. I think NY State could easily pass something where all it's residents AND workers recieve state wide medical benefits, where the cost of doing business here would be greatly reduced. Often time huge changes like these from NY or Cali start ripple effects throughout the country too.
So my idea, is that the Fed create funding options for states instead of mandating so often. Half the defense budget in a decade and use the same money to fund education and health options... those are afterall foundations of any decent society.
We have to get away from the idea that this country has one big citizenry. Example: Often times, what's good for Kansas is not good for New York and that shouldn't stop Kansas from getting what's good for them nor should it force New York to get what's bad for them.
Nice Q by the way.

When we pay our taxes let us decide where 25% of our money goes. Then we may feel a little better about paying them, We be more satifyed Knowing the things that affect us are being changed, and the problems that our government overlooks may actually get some funding. How would you spend your 25%?

Develop effective nonlethal weapons for self defense and national defense. I think the benefit of trying to avoid killing in a conflict is demonstrated by the switch of many Sunnis in Iraq from the side of al qaeda to our side. The enemy seems less concerned about destroying innocent lives while our forces show at least some restraint, and that seems to have turned a lot of people against the enemy. And now the leader of the Shiite Mahdi Army seems to be less enthusiastic about killing Americans also. The fewer people your weapons kill, the harder it is for the enemy to recruit people who want to kill Americans to avenge the deaths of their loved ones.
Also develop nonlethal pregnancy termination technology. Women shouldn't have to suffer an unwanted pregnancy for 9 months and the unborn should not have to die for the sake of their mothers' reproductive freedom. Liberty and justice for all is an objective that can't be achieved without developing nonlethal methods of protecting people's rights.

Holding the federal government to the Constitution would improve things. Repealing the 17th Amendment would probably get us there in about eight years.

Require economics education in schools. It's just as important to understand history as economics in terms of being a responsible citizen.

1- Remove Federal Reserve and get the government printing the money.
2- Work on a plan to remove HMO's, it shouldn't be a profit system and lower premiums.
3- Let you choose which schools you want to send your children.
4- Bring home the troops and get special forces to knock out Al Quada where ever they are.
5- Scrap SPP and Nafta...
Top 5 things that would be on my agenda but im Canadian...what do I know.

Make Ethics a requirement for graduating High School. Maybe it would give future politicians a conscience.

I have 2 wonderful ideas right off the top of my head:
1) all states should adopt a No State Income Tax policy like Texas, Nevada and a few others
2) all states should adopt 'Vermont Carry' gun laws, like Vermont
