Just got a new laptop with Vista as the OS. I have Windows Defender, AVG and Spybot search and destroy installed. Is this enough to protect me? Thanks.

Is Adaware 7 compatible with Vista?

When you are using Windows, nothing is foolproof. However, you are just about as secure as you can be using Windows.

If you want a foolproof setup, I would suggest downloading and installing Ubuntu Linux. It is completely free, and will not only get you increased security, but an increased set of features from that which you get with Vista.

It should be adequate protection However Window defender is not that good on Vista i suggest zone alarm as this has now become Vista compatible & protects incoming & outgoing threats/risks.
However it is foolhardy to think ANY Security Software free or otherwise is completely safe. NO SUCH THING, if its been invented then there's a way through.
the only way to stay safe is to create as many obsticals to make it harder & dont go to dodgey sites.
Good luck

This is a real good start.
You might want to add Lavasofts Adaware-7
Those 3 are all I have had for several years and I run them every week or so.
I haven't had any problems.

It depends.
Personally, i dont use anti-virus software because i dont need it.
If you are careful what you download, then you dont need it. If you dont really know what your downloading, then use it!

The main things to use are:
1) Firewall.
2) Virus scanner.
3) Spyware scanner.
4) Registry scanner.

You have a firewall built in to Vista, you have your virus scanner, you have two spyware detectors! You dont have a registry scanner, but they arent always necessary anyway.

Yeah, that seems ok to me.

Yes.

But it also takes safe practices on your part not to be infected.
