There are many varieties of corydora catfish (usually called cories) that are very cute and range from about the same size as the average adult guppy to about twice the size. The nice thing about cories is that they are active, fun to watch, peaceful fish that never bother even the smallest of other fish or fry. They are also bottom feeders, so they will help clean up any excess food that falls to the bottom of the tank and can eat the same thing as your other fish. They are social and prefer to be in groups of 5-6 but if you keep fewer they won't sicken or die or anything, they just won't be as happy.
You could also get a rubbermouth or bristlenose pleco which is also a bottom feeding fish, but more of an algae eater. They are also peaceful fish but are more shy and nocturnal and they grow to about 3-4 inches, so should be kept in at least a 20 gallon tank. You should provide a little cave or some driftwood or a decoration with a hole for them to have a place to hide. Be careful not to get a common pleco or most other kinds of plecos as they get much bigger (unless you have a 55 gallon tank or larger) and will outgrow most tanks.
Most other fish that are larger than guppies or tetras will not be entirely safe with them. Other varieties of tetras might work, but some can be fin nippers (black skirt tetras). Gouramis are notorious fin nippers, particularly of fancy male guppies. Sometimes they can be kept together safely, but it is a risk.

There are many different kinds of tetras that are peaceful and guppy's are generally a peaceful fish I dont know what kind of tetras you have but here are a few of the different kind that I have come to enjoy Rummy nose tetras, Neon tetras,Black neon tetras, bleeding heart tetras,Blood fin tetras, glow lite tetras, lemon tetras, red phantom tetra, red eye tetra, or here are a few non tetras that would be good in your tank gold barbs,(my favorite)cherry barbs, pearl danio, zebra danio, and clown loachs. If you are not sure tell the clerk at the store and they can usually recommend some fish for your tank.Good luck (I have a 70 gal tank with 11 angel fish they are all about the size of an apple and then I have a small tank about 30 gal with tetras)

try not to go for any Ciclids as they can be aggresive and may eat small fish.
gouramis are nice peaceful in general and come in various species in different sizes, if you want something that just a bit bigger than tetra's and guppies go for dwarf gouramis or honey gouramis.

I don't know how big your tank is, but if you have room, add 4-5 cory cats, they will add some action to the tank, also a couple of male swordtails could add some nice color. and the best part is these fish are cheap and are strong enough to survive any mistakes you may make in tank keeping.

Get some gouramis - there are loads of different types:
-Opaline
-Red Robin
-Dwarf
-Gold
-Turquoise
But if you have a smaller tank, then Dwarf or Red Robin Gouramis would be better.
Also Mollies would be fine and they also come in many different colours and even shapes (sailfin, regular or balloon!)

I use to mess with the tetras and guppies but really those are for beginners. Are you a beginner? If so get out of the phase, and go to the next step.....Chiclids. Now those are some cool fish. Good Luck.
