I have been at college and have 3 male friends including my roomate. I would like to make more female friends, but Im really shy aound girls...What can I do to change this? And would this be a good way to make more friends on my floor...Hi..My name is Carl, and I dont know many people here...would you like to go with us to lunch/dinner/movie? Is that okay to do? Or is that too desperate?

smile at everyone on your floor. you'll be amazed that most of them will smile back at you. then start small conversations. get to know them. then you can start to invite them to have lunch/dinner/movie with you. or you can invite them to eat with you right there in your place.
