My friends usually sit outsides during lunch cos its late winter and its way too cold to be sitting inside. We usually sit in a circle so some people are directly facing the sun and some people are not. Yesterday i was sitting with the sun to my back, then my this friend of mine asked me to move so she could sit where i was sitting. And me being, well me, said no. There was a space somewhere elso so i told her to sit there, t hen she says that she cant sit in the sun because if she does then her skin will get dark and no one would want to marry her! And i was like WFT?!? I told her that was the most ridiculous thing i'd ever heard and that she was pathetic. (nicely) She told me that her older sister (23) wasnt married because no one wanted her because her skin was dark from sun exposure. Is she alright up there, or is it just me.

Maybe she just doesn't want her skin to get too dark. Especially if she's asian, or she has really white skin and wants to keep it that way, because some people just don't look good with tan skin. Then, maybe she thinks that if she doesn't look good, she'll never get married because no one will want her. Tell her that tanning her arms and legs is alright; as long as she keeps her face white. And tell her to bring a hat.

You mean 'dark' like a racial thing? Otherwise, sounds like a phobia or an old-wives tale. It's best to not make fun of her, and if you're a friend, when you get her alone, ask her what she meant and be sympathetic. Tell her skin is skin; color doesn't matter-what you are matters most. And a sign of vanity is not a good point.

she has it a little wrong in the way she is trying to get the message across. tan skin is very pretty, but have you seen someone who worshipped the sun ,tanned everyday. their skin looks like leather and they have alot of lines on their faces. years of being out there does mayor damage to your skin and when you get older it wil be hard to see a pretty person under the damage of the sun. it does also cause cancer in some people. so she has the wrong picture of the sun damage but in the long run she is correct.
