I found an imitation, old fashioned one in a catalog that looks like it is out of the 1800s. Unfortunately, it does not chime. What type of clocks are your favorites? What style - modern or vintage?

I have a small Seth-Thomas "mantle" clock. It used to chime the hours, and chime the the half hour with one chime.

It got wound too tight by me, I guess. I need to have it repaired but when I took it to have that done, it was going to cost me $250, so now, I just wind it to hear the ticking sound.

I adore clocks. I grew up with a Seth Thomas clock on our fake fireplace mantle and I loved the ticking sound. It gives me comfort now to hear it and feel safe. Weird, I suppose, but can't help it.

When one of my son's visits me, he and his wife stop the clock because they can't stand the ticking. It is so funny. They think I don't know.

Thanks for the question. I hope you find one that chimes.

I DO love clocks! Strangely, I have six grandfather clocks, the tall ones! They all chime and are simply beautiful. My favorite grandfather clocks that are the 'new' type come from Ridgeway Company. They are truly fantastic. I have many, many clocks that are true antiques from the 1800's in my home. Just this week, our furniture store closed its doors for the last time. My husband and I could not bare to lose so many of the clocks.............so, we didn't. We brought them home! These were new clocks from great companies. I enjoy the company of clocks that chime. My favorites are the ones that can be changed to different musical pieces. Clocks are just so friendly.

I do. I have 3 mantle ones. My fave is one my aunt got for a wedding gift in 1907 or so. She put on there on a small paper who gave it to them, and also every time it was repaired. I have had it i suppose now for 20 years. I helped my dad build a grandfather clock from one of those kits from 1970. It has moved a few times, but works well.
My clocks chime. I do have a clock radio that I need to work on. It was made around 1928, so it goes well with radios. LOL The other clock radio is from around 1957.

I love buying clocks!!! I always want to get a new one usually after a week or two, if only i had all the money for that many clocks. As for the style, i like vintage a bit more than modern.

I have a Zen Alarm Clock. Its hourly chime is so soothing and relaxing. I stop whatever I am doing every time I hear the chime, take a deep breath, and get back to the present moment...

In the early 70's, I received a "Schoolhouse Clock" (it has a pendulum in the lower part of it) for Christmas one year. It came in a kit & had to be put together. The person who gave it to me, did a great job of assembling it for me, & he stained & varnished it, & it was such a wonderful surprise. I still have it & it is on my living room wall. I still love the old fashioned looking clocks. :)

Yes! I love clocks. I love grandfather clocks as well as mantle clocks. I have an exquisite mantle clock, but it needs to have its inner workings refurbished, which can be very costly. Same for my grandfather clock.

Old clocks are so beautiful.
