Then again, had FDR waited a little longer, there would be even fewer Russians to contend with, today!
Don't forget, even though they were not our ally at the time, those Russians were using war materials, and eating chow, that was made in the USA, while they were killing Nazi's ! So, they weren't completely ignored by the Americans.
I believe the real animosity towards the US lies in the fact, that the Russians believe the US got way too much credit, in defeating Nazi Germany. There could be some truth to this.
The political climate in the US, prior to Pearl Harbor, was one that opposed war against the Nazi's. FDR was in a no win position, but his sympathy certainly leaned towards Great Britain.
Merchant ships from the US were leaving daily for Great Britain, with war materials and humanitarian supplies, only to be sunk by Nazi submarines. So, the US was very active, even before Dec. 7, 1941, in helping to defeat the Third Riech !

I am a fellow right winger but get your facts straight. Germany and Russia had a non- aggression pact. They partitioned Poland. Russia took the small eastern side. That is when WW2 started. England and France were bound by treaty to go to the aid of Poland. The Germans promptly kicked their butts taking France in record time. The Germans planned to invade England but failed to achieve air superiority. FDR had the vision to see that Hitler must be stopped. Hitler frustrated by not being able to invade England decided to quickly take Russia and its resourses which he needed. The Germans crushed the Russians until the the winter stopped them. FDR , the biggest lefty America has ever produced liked the despot Stalin calling him "uncle joe" . Ditto for his last vise president Truman. FDR and Truman did not recognize the threat of communism but he certainly wanted to stop Hitler. The republicans of that time were for staying out of WW2. It is ironic that WW2 started to free Poland and at the end of the war Poland was under Russian control. Out of over a million german prisoners 50,000 were returned years after the war. The rest were killed or worked to death. America has been critisized for going to the aid of the despot Stalin but thousands of US soldiers lives were saved by doing so. You are on the right side but read some history and remember, much of our history is written by lefties. There is a new biogragraphy of Eisenhour out now. Read it. Give FDR credit for having the vision to see that Hitler could and should be stopped.

This is not true at all. My Russian friends speak deeply about WWII, or, in their words, The Great Patriotic War, and, have collective memories of the sacrifice Russians made in those days. 20 million died in the war. They do not consider the Americans central to the war, at all.

You fool, FDR did exactly what he needed to do - supply the material to the Russians and let them do the bleeding.
Russia had men but little modern equipment - the USA had lots of equipment but no stomach for a long and bloody war.
Give FDR credit - he did a fantastic job keeping USA casualties under a million.

While I wont attempt to agree or disagree with your premise- Russia was an emerging enemy of sorts by WWII- but few Americans realize that only about 300,000 Americans died in WWII while nearly 8 million Russians died.

Reaching wayyyy back to take the blame off Bush? Other countries hate us because we try to act like the playground bully. You do as I say or I will pulvarize ya. They're all sick of it.
If it had not been for FDR our country would have fallen apart. We may not even have HAD a United States today if it weren't for him.

Will you stop with the nonsensical propaganda? Where are your sources? Do you think that Reagan's "Star Wars" program was good for our relationship with the USSR? Either back up your claims with sources and facts, or you're just stating your OPINIONS. You do know the difference between fact and opinion, don't you?
