First boat and first time replacing a prop. Bought the correct size Quicksilver aluminum prop and have all the parts to the hub kit in the right spot. I have tightened the last nut as tight as possible but the prop moves up and down on the shaft between 1/8 and 1/16 inch. Is this normal? If not how can I get it right?

Assuming you mean that the prop moves in and out on the shaft, This is normal on all outboard motors. You also stated that you tighten the prop as tight as you can. That is a no no, you are supposed to torq the prop to 55 ft. lbs. there is a thrust washer behind the prop. That thrust washer is there to keep the proper thrust on the prop. With out it you will eat up the seal and housing of the lower unit. I suggest to take the prop nut loose and retorq to 55 ft. lbs. If you have 1/16 to 1/8 of play then you know you are right on. Go and have fun with your new toy. Hope this helps.

Not sure what you mean by " up and down" . There should be no movement, lenghtwise :( front to back horizontally) unless a washer is missing. If there is vertical movement of the prop then either the prop is loose on the shaft (wrong prop for motor) , or you have issues inside the lower drive unit with the bearings. By the way. DO NOT!! tighten the prop nut as tight as you can get it. It just has to be snugged up properly to hold the prop on and insert the cotter pin. If you should need to change out a damaged prop while out, ( assuming you had a spare) you would be able to change it with a pair or pliers, not an impact gun. Would help if you told us what you were working on? Don`t forget to check the lower drive oil before going out. A manual is not that expensive and could save you lots of time and money as well . Have fun boating, don`t forget the safety gear. You can replace the boat, you can`t replace your family. And you can`t walk for help.

iT IS NORMAL TO HAVE A SLIGHT PLAY OF 1/16. IF THERE IS A LOT OF PLAY AFTER TIGHTENING THAT IS NOT GOOD. THAT MEANS THE SHAFT IS WORN. UN DO THE PROP AND RESEAT IT, MAYBE YOU DID NOT SEAT IT DOWN PROPERLY. IT HAS TO SIT DOWN ON THE SHAFT THE RIGHT WAY AND YOU SHOULD TIGHTEN IT WITH A TORQUE WRENCH AND A BLOCK OF WOOD TO STOP THE PROP FROM TURNING WHILE TIGHTENING IT. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ALL THE WASHERS, SPACERS AND RINGS THAT GO WITH THE PROP FOR YOU SHAFT. EACH BOAT IS DIFFERENT AND THE PROP MAY NOT COME WITH EVERYTHING YOU NEED FOR YOUR BOAT. GOOD LUCK, HAPPY BOATING.
