The question is misleading. People with low IQ not always understand humans and vice versa. And you're mixing IQ with empathy.
People with low IQ are more easy to accept anyone without questioning much. It's not necessarily a better understanding, I'd say it's more like not knowing enough to realize that there's no understanding.
People with high IQ are more likely to be (or look like) picky about others. The ability to evaluate more elements makes them more likely to want more intellectual challenge on a personal relation. It may look like they're not able to understand humans.
Empathy is a different issue and I think that that's what you're talking about. You think that people with empathy towards others understand humans and people without empathy don't.

There is something called the Expectancy Effect. If someone drinks alcohol, and expects that they will become uninhibited, they will become uninhibited and act crazy, even if what they drank was unalcoholic beer. When someone is labelled depressed, or with a low IQ, the same thing can happen. But low IQ tests mean NOTHING. There are seven known types of IQ, two of them being athletic and emotional intelligence. Are those tested? No. Howard Stern, who accepted 100 million dollars four years ago is afraid of IQ tests because he knows that he has a low IQ. Think of all of the athletes, painters and thinkers throughout history who are considered borderline retarded because they don't know math and certain types of thinking. A high score on IQ tests just mean that you are good at taking IQ tests. Why doesn't the president of the united states have to take an IQ test to run the country? George W Bush didn't take one. You don't need to take one to have a job. It's what you can do that gets you a job. How is figuring out a sequence of rotating squares able to determine how smart you are as a person? When immigrants came to america they were deemed idiots because they could not do the iq tests, because they couldn't understand the English questions. Maybe IQ tests aren't made for people who don't think mathematically yet. Some people are idiots that have high IQs. You definitely don't have a cognitive disability regarding speech, you can formulate a paragraph better than most losers on this website, just check out the religion portion of yahoo answers.

In what sense of understanding? is this the understanding the humans as science thing or humans as part of our lives thing? if what you're refering to is people in general, I guess I'd rather have a low IQ and understand humans than have a high IQ but can't understand humans at all. you don't need to be someone who is smart or intelligent to understand humans. in reality, you just have to listen to them and symphatize with what they are feeling. don't judge them easily, know them first. you should be able to relate to what they are going through so that you can give some good advice to them. what would you do with your high IQ when all you know is solve all those nerdy physics/math questions? life is not at all about being book smart, but being someone whose street smart. :D hope i made sense. :)

Historically, an average(or higher than average) IQ and a well rounded personality takes people to places and make them above average achievers than higher IQ alone. The moot point is, can people with low IQ turn out to be well rounded personalities? It's doubtful. Therefore, logically with both the stipulations in your question with understanding of Humans as a common factor would give an edge to people with higher IQ over people with low IQ.So be it.

Low IQ and understand humans, as long as this involved being able to communicate and socialize effectively with them. I believe relationships are what makes life worth living.

I'd have to go with gabykawa on this one. The only thing I would add, is the old saying, "IGNORANCE IS BLISS"! Sometimes I just wish that I didn't know some of the things I know! IQ has little to do with it! Learning the art of acceptance is the key to dealing with humans & human nature~!

I'd rather have the low IQ & understand people. I know a lot of really intellegent people who have no personality & just have no common sense at all. When it comes to dealing with people, they just aren't capable.

why cant you have both? humans are idiots from my experience and that includes teachers and parents and other "intelligent" people. everyone is an idiot. i'm not excluding myself because i have done some really stupid stuff but also like to think i am highly intelligent. my classmates tell me so. i've answered your question but do you tihnk you can take a step back and look at yourself and see the foolish things you've done. you're just as much of an idiot as the next guy and so am i. idiocy manifests in different ways for different people but none are immune to it
