I prefer shorter shows myself, mainly because some anime seem to run out of original ideas by the 3rd or 4th seasons. What about you?

I completely agree. I know a lot of people on here like Bleach, Naruto, Inuyasha, etc- but those shows aren't for me. I feel that when you start running long like that, the plot draggs, and you start getting 3 part episodes (which annoy me), and battles that may take half a season to resolve- even though it was just one meeting (Hokage's death in Naruto or any DBZ battle). Some people like this stuff, which is great- but I personally can't stand it.
The majority of my favorite shows are 26 episodes or less, and some much smaller than that (R.O.D. OAV, BPS, Elfen Lied.)

The only two exceptions that make me ok with long series are when a series is either divided up into seasons where each season is stand alone, and doesn't demand a next (ie Full Metal Panic) or the show is more focused on individual episodes than an indepth plot (ie Detective Conan where you can watch practically any episode and enjoy it and follow it with out having seen previous episodes).

It really depends on the anime itself. My personal favorite is the Saiyuki series and it is currently on its 3rd season (not counting the new OVA). The manga still continues for this series so in terms of original ideas, well that really comes from the influence of the mankaga. However, I am also a huge fan of the anime Elfen Lied which only has 13 episodes.

well i enjoy following naruto and i watched all of dbz and those are RLY long lol. but i didnt mind shor animes although trinity blood and hellsing had a lot to expand on.. death note was a fine length
fma was a gd balance of length and originality in ideas. but hellsing was too short. and the manga itself is longer, they should continue it...
chobits, another short anime in my opinion the last 3 or so episodes were a bit too cut down, they needed at least another 2 eps longer

No, I definitely like longer animes and manga, such as Naruto, Bleach, and so on. Only because you get more attatched and you get to love the characters as they progress in the anime and /or manga. Also, I hate for them to end, so longer animes satisfy me longer.
