I don't mean a test grade but a class average you had at one point. My school has this grade book on the internet so you can check current grades in class. I was horrified when I saw I had a %15 in English. It's not that I'm mentally retarded, I just screwed up on a quiz and didn't complete a homework assignment. The quiz was over the Puritan culture, which I, and many other people, failed miserably. I also took a vocabulary test and got a 16/20 because the teacher is an idiot and changed the originally simple defininitions to something more complicated and confusing. I just had to rant about that at the expense of my dignity. 7 weeks left to get back up to a decent grade, do you think I can do it?

I know you don't care but I just checked my grade again and it currently stands at 72.61 (C). I actually got a 100% on the vocabulary test and got full credit for the homework I completed in a half-assed way. Good for me.

I once had a 4 average at Logic(here they make the averages by adding 2,3,4 marks and then dividing them to 2 and 3 ..).I didn't understand the lesson and I asked the teacher if he could explain me some things!Instead of explaining he gave me a 4..I was angry with the teacher and I refused to learn for his subject. At the end of the semester I had the marks:4,4,3 at Logic!Lol,I was lucky that on the first semester I had an average of 10,it was in the 9 grade!

There is a huge disconnect between teaching subjects and teaching what the subjects are good for. It is unfortunate that the educational system cannot instill some purpose to the subjects. If she had some concept of why she needs to do well in those other subjects it could help. There is also a concept that you could help define some higher expectation for her school performance. In our house I started with a discussion using the Sunday want adds. That was followed with a discussion of all the good jobs listed as "4 year degree" required. It is possible to get a 2 year degree and do well but it is no longer enough to get a high school diploma and do more than fast food. There is no program in any college which does not have some level of math and it is good to start now. There is a great level of delayed gratification in knowing the stuff before college and not having to struggle. I was supportive of my son's creative efforts in art but emphasised that he needed to make a living and be able to take care of his own finances and business. This requires math skills. One other option for getting her to be more attentive to classes she shows little interest in is to point out that right now she thinks she has a direction. The reality is no one really knows where their interests will lead them later and it would be a shame to limit her options for later because of inattention now. I know of very few people who graduated in the subject they chose and then used that subject later in life. It is about keeping her options open. There are many, many ways to make money in areas that we love. For her it could be producing art, managing it (math), agents for artists (business school / math), writing about it (art HISTORY / english), you get the point. It comes to your expectations that she keep her horizon very wide and that would be by achievement in all subjects not just the ones she likes. The last reality is that high school is not difficult to get through with decent grades. It takes some work but it is more about attitude than anything else. Far too many kids feel that high school becomes the end of education. Again reality shows high school is the qualifier for higher education and the beginning of adulthood. There is actually not enough information presented to students so she should be more willing to suck up everything she can while she is not having to pay to get it. Ultimately a lot of this would go away if the schools taught what this information is good for and why they need it instead of being told just do it. Don't know if this was what you were asking for but hope it helps.

I got a D in spanish once, luckily it wasn't a final grade. My teacher decided to let us know how we were doing in the class. It scared the crap out of me enough that i studied a lot harder and managed to raise it to a B- which a whole lot better than a D. (I also talked to my teacher and asked if I could do some extra credit stuff to raise my grade)
You can definitely do it. I think what is required here, a talk with your teacher and basically ask what you can do to raise that grade. Then, it's up to you to do the the obvious - Study.
Good Luck!

lets see. i don't remember the percentages or whatever - i failed biology miserable as if i didn't even take it. i refused to dissect a frog - that was 1/2 the grade,so i got a 0. i have a phobia of them - and there is no way i could get near one. the teacher and i didn't see eye to eye,and didn't get along. i failed PE because i wouldn't "dress out" - change clothes- or participate one year. my friends and i just sat on the bleachers to talk and wouldn't do anything. i failed geometry simply because i am a dumba**. =) shall i continue hehe
