i currently have cable internet and i was wondering if it was possible to buy another modem and have both modems hooked up via a splitter?

the reason i wanted to do this is because i want my computer and ps2 connected to different modems and i thought maybe this would eliminate the problems i had with online gaming for ps2 when i had both hooked up through a router.

Good question, but I don't believe this will work. Your ISP will issue an IP address down the line to your modem...I don't see how this would work w/2 modems.

If you want to hook up multiple computers to 1 modem, then you need a router. The modem will plug into the router, your computer(s) will plug into the router. if you need wireless? Make sure you get a wireless router.

Good luck!

No, the cable company can only validate ONE modem/mac address for you and will only issue one IP.

If you need computers in another area of the house, just use a router to get multiple connections using that one modem.

To do what you say you want to do will require TWO Cable lines!

Why? Do you think that will speed up your internet connection? It won't. You only get 1 IP with cable. 1 IP = 1 connection. A router can give u more connections but they are all routed and therefore bottlenecked thru the same IP.

How previous is this Linksys Cable Modem? are you able to get into the Linksys Configuration? in case you will get into the Configuration, see in case you are able to replace the Linksys BOIS ROM. If not, call Cisco (employer that owns Linksys) and notice in the event that they could help. If the Linksys modem is below 2 years, they may well be waiting to repair it or replace it freed from charge (different than perhaps S&H).
