Why is the American army the worst?

Question

as an Englishman who is currently in the USA on business i feel i must ask this.
As we are all aware, the US army are the worst, but why should a country that spends so much on warfare be so terrible at shooting the right people.
It would be my advise to the US army to let these so called soldiers practice shooting some guns before throwing them into the desert.
Anyone agree?

My experience of the US army goes back a long way. I found them for the most part kind and considerate. I am of course talking of those soldiers who came to the UK to help defend Europe against the menace of Hilters Germany. For those who don’t know the USA never declared war on Hilters Germany, Hilters Germany declared war on the USA. Strictly speaking the US Army was in Europe defending itself and the spin off was they were defending Europe at the same time. Well done America.

The US troops in my town provide many gifts for the children, there base provide good jobs for local people and they joined in local activates.

It is not possible to say which country has the best or worst army, it a subjective judgement as so many of the response have showed. Having superior weapons does not make an army the best. The moral fibre of the common soldier is the most important aspect of an army. This followed by leaders, leaders must be inspirational at least enough to get the soldiers to follow them.

The US Army stationed in Europe after the second world war most likely prevented an invasion by the Red Army. It might have been different had it come to a fight, that is the they were never put to the test. Thought they did put up a dam fine show regarding the Berlin airlift.

In the years since, well the evidence is that the US army has not performed to well. Yes they invaded Grenada and Panama without much trouble, but elsewhere its been a different story. In Vietnam they had over whelming superior in arms. Problem was the US army in terms of the common soldier, there hearts were not in it. Lots of drugs taking, some atrocities against the local population by this disaffected soldiers. Some of these soldiers had no moral fibre and at the end had no little support from the American people. The leadership was poor and the strategy and tactics were even worse.

The war in Iraq appears to be following the pattern set in Vietnam. The US army may have the best tank in the world, but its not helping to win the war. To win this war as you need to win hearts and minds, you failed to do this in Vietnam and you are failing to do this in Iraq.

Wake up America fail in Iraq and the world will doubt the veracity of those say America is a super power. Russia is already flexing is muscles again probing the air space of the European countries with heavy bombers. The world needs a strong USA, the USA can keep the rest of the world free from tyranny. Some of your politicians are corrupts and self serving, your politicos need to clean up their act. Currently the electors in the USA are prepared to put with second-rate leaders.

Remember it was GW Bush who after the twin tower disaster said “We will seek out and destroy terrorists and those who support terrorists wherever they are in the world ” This after years of American citizen funding the supply of arms to the terrorists in Northern Ireland.

I am a supporter of the USA always have been, I don’t make my judgements of American people on the Jerry Springer Show or on the American soldier. For those Americas reading this only a true friend will tell you what you may not want to hear.

England has a good army, no doubt. Trained in Irland for modern war with relatively clever soldiers. This makes them very efficient in the type of war the coalition is involved now.

US army is more made of all type of people. But then, do not underestimate them. The choice is different. I guess if you would compare the comparable, (meaning if the US would refuse appplications like the UK), you would end up with a higher level in the US. They are taller, better equiped and more professional (focused on the important point).
All in all it is still, and by far, the most powerfull army in the world.

What do you mean by shooting the right people ?

Refering to the war in the desert ... england send its "best in town" soldiers while american's do not ! compare the comparable.

(i am not american ... not pro nor against !) They at least try to do well in a complicated world. (many do nothing !) sacrificing energy that could be oriented domesticaly for the others !! this deserves respect.

For us, Europeans, the phone number of americans is 14 18 39 45, the 2 world wars where plenty of american came and died for us. their is american blood on the beaches of france in normandy and in other places .... that deserves respect again !!!!

And the best shooters, although not involved in any war, are the swiss !!! Surprising but true ! have a look at how they (we) reached it !! (this is still out of topic ! no ofense meant !) Besides Switzerland orients its energy with red cross and in other manners (the biggest donors pro capita and pro GDP) yet the role in the world of Switzerland is different than the US or UK or ... due to its size ... and...

Hello, So much talk of ww2 yes the Yanks help Great Britain towards the end of the war but not as friends they did it for money just as today but for energy.It was not until 2007 did we finally pay back the money owed to them.Your statement about the Yanks ability with firearms is not exactly true they have always been outstanding at shooting and talking s**t. As for practise with their guns did not their fore-fathers do the same as today into the ranks of the BritishTroops.

Now i understand you Russians are very proud people, yet truly, who're you attempting to impression. The people have not got the suited military interior the international (Israel, Britain & French distant places Legion are known even by way of usa using fact the suited) yet they could kick Russias *** any day of the week! I remember examining appropriate to the Crimea conflict between Russia and Britain. You Russians outnumbered the Brits by way of one thousand - a million and that they nevertheless beat you! all your squaddies are beginner conscripts, the people are all specialists. You needed 50,000 squaddies to combat Georgia at present and that they only used 3,000 troops! The Russian soldier is sturdy at ingesting physique spray, raping 10 3 hundred and sixty 5 days outdated ladies (and boys) and ingesting potato's...Get actual!

The US Military is way better then the British Military will ever be. The British Military when people join are mostly first time shooting a weapon because they banned guns. While the US over half of our soldiers have shot a gun and are very good at it.

Dear Sir, I believe your name says it all! I am not sure whether your intent is to just stir up a hornets nest or whether you actually intend to have type of civilized dialog. I am also wondering where you get the idea that the US Army is the worst. Is it due to the fact that civilians are also being killed in a war? If that is indeed the case I would recommend that you take a quick survey of military history, including your own, and see that in ALL wars civilians pay a price from destruction of societies to the ultimate price of death.

I seriously doubt that you have ever been in a fire fight or had to protect yourself from a barrage of bullets. Have you ever had to fight back under such conditions? Perhaps you ought to speak with someone who has in order to get an idea of what people go through and about the stresses placed upon them. Oh, and another question for you, who would you consider to be the "right " people? Remember that war is never pretty and is far from civilized.

I find it interesting that people keep bringing up the travesty of Abu Ghraib and yet they say nothing about the barbarity of those fundamentalists who kidnap, torture, and behead people. How can you condemn one and not the other?

you are so far off in your assessment. First, my daughter was in field atilery and she trained in Oklahoma and El Paso Tx. She has scars from sleeping with red ants.

I don't want to embarass you, but you make a mistake that many foreigners do about the US. You see one little sections and assume it's that way all over the nation.

It's like visiting Rome and saying everyone in EU speaks Italian.

i see alot of you have pride in your military and you should. i severd in your army for 25 years. i was and i am still proud of that and the soldiers i served with. the american army is not the worst. they are admittedly performing badly but that is because of they have the poorest leaders in the history of the amreican military and possibly the worst president.

you need to remember they are doing a mission the were not trained for and they dont agree with. try very hard to think that if you were in thier shoes you may feel different.

this is why america has to go to the depressed areas to get recruits for the army from the slums. why they have lowwerd the entry criteria. make promises they cant keep and cut the soldiers pay and benifits.

they are great soldiers and great people just as our british military is. we are as proud a people as they are . our problem is we act like sheep to the slaughter because we have forgotten how to stand up to our goverment and our goverment is as corrupt as the USA's

Well, thank you for sharing your opinion. As someone who has BEEN there, I can tell you this:

When you don't know who your enemy is, sometimes the wrong people get hit. It sucks, but it's reality.

It's not like in other wars where the enemy is well identified by the uniform they wear.

Maybe you should join the service and go over and show us how to do it right.

Armchair quarterbacks like you should keep their moneymakers shut.
