Absolutely not. In some respects, China is more market oriented (democratic) than America (e.g. you have to pay to go to High School in China, not America). China still has a long way to go (e.g. too much industry is owned by the state).
What I fear the most about China is if the market economy that is making it succeed will sometime fail hence taking it back to it's socialist communist beginnings. The more that China's new middle class grows, the less likely that is to be.
Hopefully China can deal with it's new problems, which have been brought on by success: false support of its currency, number one world polluter (from it's industry), still high in human rights violations, etc. Only continual progress in its world leadership will help to fight these problems as well.

I don't see it as fear so much as concern. China is clearly envious of America's hegemony.
China is vulnerable though. They have problems with their internal structure. If they start a war, they are open to disruption of their fragile economic and social structures.
China does have some powerful allies in the US, primarily the Democratic party.
Russia, which is now returning to the Soviet Union under Putin is of more concern than the Chinese.
Russia and China are very similar to Nazi Germany and Japan in the early 1930s and should be watched closely.

No. China is polluting their own food sources, their technology is 25 years behind us and they have huge social and political changes to go through before they will become a world power.

not really. I'm more afraid of our OWN government as a world power.
My experience with the Chinese is that they are sensible, hard working, cooperative people. My biggest concern is that during their economic development, they may contribute to global warming and athmospheric contamination. But that can be addressed.
