Ok so they did help us out eventually in both world wars but only when they were involved. Except for those that flew under the Canadian banner thanks there, as far as I know we came into Iraq immediately.

Oh dear, you're going to prick one of the most dearly held beliefs of the US - that they have saved the world - out of total selflessness and generosity - every time.

True, the US didn't enter the first or second world wars until late - largely because of their isolationist policies. But they are the superpower of the moment and everyone wants to be on that gravy train. As always, it is politics, not fairness or whatever you may want to call it, that drives the game. Bismarck, the chancellor of Germany in the nineteenth century had a term for this kind of politics - realpolitik. It's an apt description.

Ultimately, in WWI the US only intervened when they realised they stood more to loose than to gain by Germany winning the war. I would dispute that they won the war for us but they weighted the odds in favour of the UK, Canada, Australia and France: the countries who had lost the most.

In WWII, God only knows when they would have come into the war if Japan hadn't bombed Pearl Harbour. Again, it was a please don't involve us in your sandpit squabbling attitude.

Who is 'we'? Are you from England? Tell you what, the next time the Nazis try to take over I'll send a letter to the government asking them to stay out of it.

Unless I'm mistaken, there have been some issues with terrorism on your side of the pond. If you assume this whole Iraq mess was really about stopping terrorism, don't you thing you have a stake in that cause?

I'm British and unless you have no grasp of history whatsoever , i think you will find they played quite a large part in WW11 ( if a little bit late ) and helped us with intelligence and sidewinder missiles in the Falklands war.
