The smaller number is x
The larger number will be 26 - x

2(26-x) = 4x + 10
52 - 2x = 4x + 10
6x = 42
x = 7
26 - x = 19

The numbers are 7 and 19

the sum of 2 nos. is 26. tiwce the larger nos. exceed 4 times the smaller no. by 10. find the no.?

ans.
*the sum on 2 nos. is 26
let: x - 1st no.
y - 2nd no.

x+y=26
*twice the larger no. exceed 4 times the smaller no. by 10.
assuming x is the larger no.
2x=4y+10

equate the derived equation:
x+y=26
x=26-y
substitute the value of x to the 2nd equation:
2(26-y)=4y+10
52-2y=4y+10
6y=52-10
y=42/6
y=7
substitute the derived value of y=7 to any of the two equation to get the value of x:
x+y=26
x+7=26
x=26-7=19
therefore the nos. are 19 and 7
enjoy math:-)

Let the numbers be x and y. Let the larger be y

x + y = 26 ..... (1)
2y = 4x + 10
--> y = 2x + 5 ..... (2)

From (1),
x = 26 - y

Put this value of x in (2),

y = 2(26 - y) + 5
y = 52 - 2y + 5
3y = 57
y = 19

Put y = 19 in (1)

x + 19 = 26
x = 7

The numbers are 7 and 19.

easy...
let the the smaller number be x
therefore, the larger number will be 26 - x

2(26-x) = 4x + 10
52 - 2x = 4x + 10
6x = 42
x = 7
26 - x = 19

therefore, the numbers are 7 and 19...

CHECK:
7 + 19 = 26,
19*2 = 7*4 +10 = 38
hence solved...
