I had serious lower back pain for about 3 years and no doctor could help me I went for all sorts of therapy and took a lot of muscle relaxers and pain killers that kept me zoned out and I could not do anything constructive a friend suggested acupuncture I was afraid and did not go for a few months, until the pain killers started making me have other problems, I went and had 6 acupuncture sessions I could tell the difference after the first treatment that was about 15 years ago and I have not had a back pain since, I say go for the acupuncture, I went to a Chinese acupuncturist.

After many years of suffering with back pain , and many hundreds of dollars spend with physiotherapy i was final convinced to go and see an acupuncturist - long story short after 2 treatments pain was nearly gone - i enjoyed it so much i decided to study acupuncture and no treat many cases with back pain - its the staple condition which is treated - even though we are last line treatment we get very good results . with acupuncture we get to the point ( pardon the punt) of the problem not just stretch out the muscle

I prefer P.T in back pain as there P.T modalities used to decrease inflammation ,muscle spasm which in turn decrease pain . there is in P.T therapeutic exercises used to increase muscle strength and stretch tight muscles which in turn fix the spinal bio mechanic.

They can both work and there is not reason why you can't do both.

I would also try meditation/relaxatin and Feldenkrais. You can find a Feldenkrais practitioner in your area at their website.

depends on what is causing the low back pain.
if it is muscular..physiotherapy
if is musculoskelatal...chiropractor
home remedy...ice..never heat
