Eggs came along a long time before there were chickens. Lizards were laying them for millions of years before there were ever any birds. Slowly these lizards evolved feathers. Like it or not the fossil record does exist for this idea. Identical skeletons have been found, some with feathers, some without.

At some point an egg hatched and what came out looked sufficiently different from what had been coming out before that someone named it chicken.

So this answer is not as difficult to understand as philosophers have lead us to believe.

personally, not being a christian i belive in evolution i've wondered this for a long time but whether you believe in evolution or creation, i believe it really depends whether your talking about the modern chicken egg or a different kind. I would have to say the chicken because an animal evolved into a chicken it hatched from a more distant creatures egg and was a chicken and layed it's own egg .

its a simple solution . either you believe in creation or evolution. if god created the earth ofcourse he did in a particular time long ago. and even if you believe in evolution and science earth was formed in a definite time long ago. so it sets to rest the argument of infinitely going over alternately ..chicken before it egg, before it chicken.......now if you believe in creationism it becomes a simple problem either chicken or egg,one is definite only one dosent know a simple practical problem of just not being there to see,so the problem looses its mystical edge and becomes a simple and unintresting lack of witness case. now if you believe in science and evolution you should note that all animals have evolved from simple organisms, and lots of stages in between. now if you go back all the way ofcourse chicken was just a single celled creature , now these things donot produce eggs, so by that you can say chicken came first. but if you donot regard them as chicken you will have to fix a reasonable stage in the chickens evolutionary journey where you may regard it as chicken ...most likely you will choose a stage where it had become a bird and already was producing eggs.so the answer is by that criteria it keeps alternating between cchicken and egg. but as you farhter and farther a point will come(though very difficult to choose such a point as difference between a single generation is negligible) when you will say no further than this!! this is the first chicken. it will be either an egg or a chicken. so again the problem looses its mystical edge it simply becomes a lack of witness problem, you simply werent there to say if it was chicken or egg.but a definite answer do exist.

The chicken would be the manufacturing device for an egg. Without a reason to produce something of a value( the egg) the chicken would just eat and get fat for roasting.most banks resemble a roasting chicken.

I have heard 3 times over the radio that people in a drinking session are killing each other because of this debate about egg and chicken. They will not agree to a conclusion since the egg and chicken themselves will not end.

For me this is just a comforter for those who fight . . .

In the Bible the first appearance of the chicken is when Judas betrayed Jesus . . . where the roaster crow 3 times
so chicken first appear
yet.. .
still in the Bible . . . still earlier than Jesus

much earlier than the time of Moses

god created the heaven and the earth
then god created Adam . . .he has within him 2 of this kind
and it is not a chicken
and so EGG is first to appear . . . not chicken

and please don't argue each other, , just make them laugh

SIMULTANOUSLY! If the "chicken" came first, the eggs are already inside of her. If the "egg" came first, it aleady has a chicken inside of it. You can not have one of their existance's without the other. So they BOTH came at the same time.

No one really knows. Some people say it was the chicken because when God created the world he didn't create a bunch of eggs.Other people say the egg came first because they hatch into chickens. But some people say that niether of them do because the circle of life dosen't really have a beginning or end

There are two ways:

in religion(most religions), it's the chicken.

in science, it can be evolution: evolution could form an animal to chicken, or evolution through egg (environment it is exposed to or mutation).

still, it has to be the chicken. haha =P

Hope this helps, Peace.
