if so....what message was he sending?

Throwing at a guy and trying to hit him are two entirely different things.

He was trying to send a message to Youk and the Sox, but was not trying to hit him.

If he was throwing at him with the intention of hitting him, he would've thrown at his ribs or hip, not over the top of his head.

No way. Yes,he has pinpoint control but he IS a rookie and was in a big spot. I believe the ball got away from him, yes, twice. All pitchers have problems with their control now and then and balls will get away from them. Both Joba and Torre were visbly upset at the ejection, they weren't just playing along. The situation didn't call for any message sending. The Yanks had a nice 5-0 lead,on the verge of sweeping a non-eventful series with a rookie on the mound with no history with the Red Sox. After the game,Torre approached Youk to reiterate that it was not intentional, what mgr would do that if not the case? The 2 gm suspension was absolutely ridiculous,he should've never been tossed in the first place. I can absolutely understand an issued warning but not an ejection. And, the homeplate ump, Angel Hernandez is known for being a hot head and unreasonable..acting almost god-like. No common sense was applied to this situation. The suspesion is a result of the umps sticking together and backing up Hernandez.

The kid has a 0.00 ERA and pretty good control....he throws two consecutive 98-99 mph pitches towards the same exact spot (Youkilis' head)...my guess is yes...somehow I don't believe the ball slipped out of his hand twice as he says it did. Only one person knows for sure if they were intentional and he isn't going to come out and say "hell yeah I threw at his head! I am just pissed I didn't hit him!" I just have a hard time believing that they weren't intentional...maybe if he had only thrown one and then got the next one down the middle of the plate but two consecutive fastballs "slip" out of his hand? Seems a bit fishy to me!

As for the message...my guess is we are coming for you Red Sox and we mean business...you mess with us and we come right back at you...although you really want to let a sleeping dog lie because those two pitches might just have woken up the Red Sox...we shall see in a couple weeks when the Yankees come to town. As for the the ejection and suspension they seem fair...personally I would have put an extra game on the suspension because with the Joba rules two games is meaningless.

go on a website that will tell you how many calories you need to stay at the weight you are now, there's an option where it says phisical activity it would be in bed or hospital, then subtract 400 calories to lose weight. another thing is make a smoothie of juice from 4 oranges, juice from 1 grapefruit, a green apple sliced, 2 celery sticks, and a handful of cut nopales( a mexican item that is like cactus, make sure you take of the spines) you blend it together and you might need a glass of water added too, then you drink all of it, you could add a tablespoon of powdered flax seeds for more hunger control. if you get hungry later in the day take slim fast or a salad with light dressing. in five days i've lost a lot of inches and 10lbs. and I didn't even exercise just daily movements, and if anyone says it's unhealthy, it's not, people say that because when you lose weight fast and then you could easily go to your old habits, but its not unhealthy. don't throw up i know a girl that died because of it.

well, it was rather odd that he did it. the yankees were up 5-0. he was doing a great job, his teamates were donig a great job. i really don't think that someone can just "slip" twice in a row, in the same spot, that just happens to be at the guy's head. now let me just say, im a HUGE yankees/joba juice fan, but i did find it very odd. he has a 0.00 era, has great control and speed. the only thing i can think of is the fact that youkilis ran off the base path. arod getting hit was taken care of in the first game when rog threw a pitch at someone. so, anyway, in joba's post game interview, he said he slipped, and he has a lot of respect for youkilies and the sox, so really i dont think anyone can answer this question. part of me says no, there was no reason to do it, and jobas a young guy who shouldnt have the desire to hit someone for no reason. part of me says yes, he did do it on purpose, becasue someone with a 0.00 era shouldnt let two balls in a row "slip" right to some guy's head when your team is up 5-0 and you won last night. so i really dont know, and i dont think anyone has the right answer beyond their own oppion. anyway, sorry this was so long, hope it helped. go yanks!! :)

He had no intention of throwing at anyone. There was no message. As usual Boston over reacted. Terry Fancona once again showed what a jerk he is. And has so often been the case the last few years, the umpires think they are the show and not the players.

I dont believe he was throwing at Youkillus. I think that maybe he was overthrowing, I mean why not throw at Big Papi or somebody like that if you want to throw at somebody, not that I condone it. It just makes no sense to throw at somebody in that situation, whether A-Rod was thrown at earlier in the game or not. I think there would have been retaliation the top half of the next inning. He has pinpoint accuracy when he is on. If he wanted to hit Kevin in the side, he would have aimed there,. if he wanted to hit him the leg, he would have aimed there. It just gives the Red Sox fans something to gripe about, besides the bad umpiring in the series.

Yes, but he didn't do a very good job at doing so. A-Rod was hit by a pitch earlier in the game by a Boston pitcher and it was "pay-back" time. Seems stupid but there you have it. In Joba's first eleven innings pitched in the big leagues he never walked a batter and to have back-to-back pitches sail over the head of the batter seems intentional to me.

yes he was. i mean you cant throw at a guys head the same pitch two straight times.the message that he was sending was that hes trying so freaking hard to fit in the whole Yankee/ redsox rivalry that he needed to startup up something.i mean how ridiculous.but redsox fans don't worry i know the redsox will retaliate in the upcoming series at fenway.who ended up being the loser anyways???he got thrown out of the game and suspended! no wonder they threw him out without warning.his a rookie and shouldn't be doing that!

I don't think he was.. throwing him out of the game was enough of a message from the home plate umpire that he thought it was. The suspension was a little too over the top... had he hit him the 2nd time then maybe, but come on..
