Her dog is nearly 5 y/o, and she's had her for 4.5 years. I feel so disgusted to have this person as a friend that claims she's a "hugee dog lover". Her dog has had only 1 litter of pups-which was a nightmare in itself.

Would I be stepping on her toes? Her bday is in 2 months. Should I get a gift certificate for a free spay? She makes more than enough money to live on.. I don't know why she hasn't done it in almost 5 years.

It's so sad that it has finally came to this. I don't work and go to school full time.. but she does work and "can't pay for it".

I think a certificate for a free spay would be an excellent gift! And,no,I don't think you would be stepping on her toes.Just tell her that you didn't know what else to get her and that you knew she "couldn't afford" to get the dog fixed,so you thought you would help her out! I know people who are the same way, they can afford everything else, but refuse to spend the money to have their pets fixed.Drives me crazy! If I had the money,I would do that as well. You're very kind to think of the dog's well - being.

Hmm. That's extremely generous of you, but maybe it would be better if you sat her down and talked to her about how she, as a responsible owner, needs to get her dog spayed. If she couldn't afford it, it would be a different matter, but if she can, and still isn't, then it's a problem of her not understanding why spaying is important.

Since she claims to be a "dog lover", she's probably going to get another dog in the future, and you can't be paying for them to be spayed/neutered all your life. At least if you talk to her about it, she will know in the future what to do with her dogs.

OMG!!!!! That is the BEST idea ever. Instead of the certificate, ask to 'borrow' her dog for the day- you'll have to take the dog from her the night before your appointment, and not feed or water it after 9 p.m. for surgery.

Then you drop the dog off usually at 8 in the morning, and pick up the same afternoon.

That would be so awesome. Also, you can tell her that spaying her dog will prevent certain cancers, and cut the risk of others (such as breast cancer) in half.

It also prevents infection of reproductive organs, which can be fatal- and expensive to treat.

I can definitely see where you're coming from; I feel irritated by people who don't neuter their pets, too. But I do think it would be stepping on her toes to pay for the surgery, because ultimately it's her decision. Maybe instead of getting it done as a gift you could talk to her and say "hey, if you're having trouble paying for this I'd be glad to help you out" and if she doesn't want the help, let it go.

hey,if she has spoken of it and done nothing about it and you think she serious but just cant be bothered,i think it would be a great idea.i rang an animal welfare league and they were doing $50 desexing on all dogs this month of august,so im gettin 2 done,i organised my mums 1 and my neighbours 2 and my sister inlaws 1.The rspca was doing females that had pups for free.so ring around and even try your local council.its a healthy decision and a responsible one.good on you for being a great friend.

if she wants to have the dog spayed then that is agreat preasent if she can't afford it but if she doesn't want to have it spayed then by all means no you don't want her getting the wrong message (i don't know what message she might get but odds are not good) If you are not sure then try suddley leading the conversation over that a way (over that way if you are not from texas) hope i can help

That's something that should be up to her, to get her dog fixed. So her dog had a litter and it was messy. That's her problem. And besides it's not a good present.

If she wants to do it, do it. If she doesn't want to, then buying a gift certificate will only be a waste of your money.
