I mean why not just have bras custom made to give you better support.

There is no such thing as natural breasts being too bing. Now I hate fake ones, implants are disgusting.

I mean, I would think that's the equivlent to a guy getting a penis reduction.

I also read that breast reductions are dangerous dammage internal tissue and you are not able to nurse.

Customs bras? No such thing as natural breasts being to large? That is a little sexist coming from a man's mouth. You are OBVIOUSLY misguided when it comes to breasts. I'm sure you wouldn't want to walk around with a 30 pound penis right? It wont be flattering, and it'll be downright uncomfortable.

Not every bra can give the support needed for women who have big breasts; even the expensive custom bras (some ranging from $80-$150). Take it from someone who knows. Although having a reduction wont allow you to breast feed (if a woman so chooses), having big, overbearing breasts can cause medical issues:

For many women (with big boosoms), their breasts are painful and cause pain in the neck, back and shoulders. In older women, the added weight from their breasts may make breathing more difficult.

Large breasts make it difficult to find clothes that fit properly, and some bras will cause painful marks on the shoulders from the bra straps.

Also, in the summer the fold beneath the breast sometimes become inflamed and uncomfortable, and it doesn't help when the weather is extremely hot-it feels like you're carrying a pool underneath each breast.

Many women, especially younger ones, are very sensitive to jokes or remarks about the size of their breasts. Large breasts make it difficult to play sports and are socially embarrassing, and wearing a bra that doesn't do the job you need it to (even though it claims it does), really doesn't help.

Breast reductions rarely cause any significant damage to the breast. Yes okay, scar tissue may develop and some breast tissue may be gone but, the loss of feeling in the nipples is what will most likely happen; not always though-every case is different.

Some women get breast reductions/augmentations for cosmetic reasons, to make themselves more "appealing" if you must, but, breast reduction surgery is not considered a comsmetic surgery and is covered by most insurance companies. If a woman has overly large breasts, she's experiencing pain and discomfort, then a breast reduction is the best way for her to go instead of suffering from the pain, discomfort and humiliation for her entire life.

And where would a woman purchase such a bra to manage support w/o it costing her an arm and a leg.

Women with large breasts who want a reduction probably do so to relieve the back discomfort that comes along with the large breasts. I think she would much rather be comfortable than have to have a custom-made back brace to help alleviate thoracic spine problems, and it would be healthier for her in the long run.

With a reduction, there is mostly fat removed from the breast, in a liposuction type of way. The tissue that contains the function for a woman to lactate is always there, able to create milk for her baby - which would not be in any danger of lack of nutrition.

I will be the devil's advocate on this one.

There comes a point that breasts can just be too big....and we're not talking about the way they look, we are talking about weight, which turns into strain on the back, shoulders and neck. It becomes a health issue. Would you rather see a woman have her breast reduce a couple of cup sizes, or watch her grow old and end up having a humped back because of poor posture due to her breast size.

Custom bras--------very very expensive, as much as $100.00 a piece, depending on the maker, if you can find one that is. Bras wear out. It's not like you get one made and you're set.

Equivalent to penis reduction? Well, if your penis weighed 40 lbs, you might consider a reduction . Aside from that, how many men have you known that has said "my penis is too big" in your life? I am guessing NONE!! haha

As for damage and nursing. Most women are much older and done having children before they get reduction surgery, so nursing is a non-issue. Tissue damage? There are dangers with any surgery, regardless of what reason it is for. You are going to have scar tissue, possibly nerve damage, but it all comes down to whether or not you are willing to take that chance in order to correct the problems that lead you to have the reduction to begin with.

And I will approach the sexual side of this...guys love boobs..big ones, small one, doesn't matter...they are object of desire, and frankly men enjoy them far more than women do in a sexual contact way. Would you rather be with a woman that has a 50DDD chest, who doesn't feel good about herself and is self concious, or a woman that gets a reduction and feels good about herself, has confidence and feels sexy?

It is true that some do it for looks but there are some who need to have it done for medical reasons like the poster below mentioned. There was an episode of a program that used to air on tv where this very issue was discussed. She had very large breasts that were causing her a great deal of pain in her back and some other areas so she went to see a doctor about the problem. He recommended the breast reduction to ease her pain. She had it done and it helped her pain go away.

I had a breast reduction over 7 years ago now. I was wearing a 38 DDD CUSTOM fit bra and it was still painful on my back and neck, plus having breasts that big and heavy caused the bra straps to leave indentations in my shoulders. And NO it isn't equivalent to a man getting a penis reduction, because last I checked the breasts were not the female sexual organs! You want to know how uncomfortable it is to have large breasts? Strap a 5 pound bag of sugar to your chest for a week and let me know how you feel then. That is still less than I had removed. They took 6 1/2 POUNDS off my chest and I am still wearing a 38D. Men think breasts are their personal playground but to very large chested women they are LITERALLY a pain.

I would have to agree with what of the other ladies said that some women get a breast reduction done to ease their pain, as having bigger breasts can cause you to have a lot of back pain. My cousin had this a lot where she could hardly sit for long periods of time or play hockey (which was her favourite sport), so she ended up having the breast reduction done and she is doing much better pain-wise. ;)

I imagine the reasons vary greatly from woman to woman. While some may do it for aesthetic reasons there are also many medical reasons a woman would have her breasts reduced. In fact a friend of mine did so at the suggestion of her doctor due to back problems caused by the largeness of her breasts being out of proportion with her diminutive body size. Regardless of the reason though, if the end result is that she feels better about/with herself then I couldn't fault the decision. Especially being a guy and having no empathy whatsoever for the feminine condition.

You need to do a little more research.

You CAN breastfeed after a reduction. See http://www.bfar.org I know MANY women who have been able to breastfeed.

Natural breasts can be too big, they cause serious health issues!

Even with the best supportive bra you can have serious health issues.

I had a reduction in Feb 2006 (38J to 38C) and would do it all over again if I had to. My breasts are nice and perky and are not sagging down to my belly button.

My fiance (a male btw and LOVES all size breasts) absolutely LOVES my breasts... before and after my reduction.

Some overendowed women (myself not included..lol) have back pain and having a reduction relieves the pain. Our boobs are not as related to sex as a penis, also.
