tsk tsk.. another life unnecessarily wasted.
if they can't put a stop to hazing, why the hell can't they stop when they feel that the human body can't take more of their beatings???
there is an anti-hazing rule/law - can't remember if it's a law - signed by most fraternities/sororities but it rarely gets implemented. in my years in UP i only know of 1 final initiation that was hazing-free. a test run if it will work. unfortunately, in various events, most of us always hold on dearly to something we got through buckets of blood, sweat and tears. easy come, easy go. a question of the degree of loyalty embedded in the hearts of new members made them ignore the rule.

as a fratman my self gone are the days like during the 70's and the 80's were frats initiation rituals are held. I guess all fraternities must change and remove physical hazing in the initiation rites. Be paddled is not the only way to get loyalty being brothers in wood (paddling) is over be open to change or fraternities and it's future will died nobody will join frats with physical hazing.

Same old story. Hazing d3aths have become a common yearly occurence in Phil. school campuses, even the Philippine Military Academy is no exception. And you wonder why law enforcement can't curb it. As long as you have idiots who think belonging to a frat will help them get a better future and will do anything and take any punishment to be accepted, you'll always have something like this happen every year. To pharaphrase a popular saying, "Kung walang magpa-paddle. walang mamamatay sa paddle" : P

It is like a warning sign that says: "Proceed at your own risk." Students, not only at UP but in all universities and colleges, know of the danger of joining fraternities yet, inspite and despite of the many warnings and deaths of students who undergo hazing, they still do. They never learn. There is no pride in dying or in death in hazing. When will these students ever learn? Should school authorities ban fraternities in their schools so as to stop hazing and unwanted deaths in their midst?

History tends to repeat itself. Ateneo learned its lesson from the death of a law student almost a decade ago. . . no reported incident again so far. Some schools just don't learn from their mistakes. Deaths due to hazing is also common in Phil Mil Academy.

I first heard about it almost immediately after he was pronounced dead in the hospital. The "hush hush" news was already in circulation (Internet) among the various frats at peyups. And naturally, these Greek organizations are now in "panic/nervous" mode coz they will be in close scrutiny again!!! When will they ever learn? But it is almost an impossible task to completely remove the "physicals" in frat initiations, no matter how many rules and regulations they put in place. Sad indeed. What a waste!
Condolences to the bereaved family.

I am horrified, honestly. It just freaks me that some people who walk the same halls that I did as a college student could hurt someone enough to kill them. I offer my condolences to the family of the victim.
I really wish that they would put a stop to the hazing. I mean, "fraternity" is supposed to be all about brotherhood, and why a person would beat somebody whom they wish to have as a "brother" of sorts is beyond me.

It will all be remembered, then investigated in the Senate, until another big controversy takes place. By then, the issue of hazing would again be forgotten.
We Filipinos never learn from mistakes.

same old story.
I don't want to sound sooo bad here but I think this happens almost every year (if not yearly). There is no denying that UP students are intelligent but they're not using their brains really well. They should never submit themselves to initiations like this nor should they do them. They should be smart enough to know that friendship and loyalty are not earned through tortures.
..my sympathies to the victims and their families.
