I was listening to a conservative talk show and the host, a former Democrat, said that while he still has many liberal views, he doesn't have leftest views.

What does this mean to you?

It means he doesn't equate "liberal" with "leftist".

Liberal has a specific meaning -- though people can debate exactly what is included in the liberal agenda.

"Leftist" is an arbitrary term, and has no inherent meaning -- though it generally covers a broad spectrum which usually includes liberal -- but because it's largely arbitrary, its definition is entirely subject to change without notice.

Sounds like he is trying to distance himself from some of the more extreme views while not letting go of his old belief system completely...guess he doesn't realize he could have just decided to be a conservative democrat.

A person can still support some civil rights issues or even the odd socialist style program without being a full blown leftist.

Rarely is anything simply black or white unless you're Al Sharpton.
