The most prestigious ones would have to be San Diego and Cal Poly Pomona, and Cal Poly San Luis Obsipo. All are fantastic schools but hard to get into. I applied to quite a few Cal States so I can tell you some info if you need help deciding.
Los Angeles is terrible, I did not see any diversity in the students. The location is terrible. The school is completely unogranized. It seems that it is mostly a school for people who want to transfer and is definitely a commuter school.

Chico is absolutely gorgeous. It is most definitely a college community.

San Marcos is so tiny. It seems like it is not fully developed yet, as they are still making many of the main buildings.

Dominguez Hills also have no diversity, I only saw an African American population. It is not in the best part of town, well the whole town itself it pretty bad. It is also a commuter school.

Stanislaus is tiny as well, Perhaps a little bigger than San Marcos though. The dorms are awesome, apartment style. The campus is gorgeous.

The term "cal state" refers ONLY to universities in the California State University system, hence they are only in California. I would say the best is Cal Poly San Luis Obispo right now. If you are speaking about state universities nationally, then UC Berkeley or the University of Michigan would have to be the best.

1 out of every 4 Christians in the world are Catholic. But the Catholic Church has changed over the years, just like the numbers have. Some Catholic Churches are old fashion, and some are more modern and lenient. That's why most people brake off into Protestant churches. As for the "no religion" people, some people that believe in God choose not to call it a "religion". Have you ever heard the saying "Jesus is my savior. Not my religion." It pretty much means worship God the way the bible says to, not the way man-made religious groups tell you to. As for the atheist, more people are becoming too smart, and thinking science is the key to everything.

It depends upon what you want to study. Figure out what you want to study and go from there. I went to San Francisco State University and studied Consumer and Family Studies -- Family Relations. That was -- at the time, anyway -- a good campus for that. I also like San Francisco State because it is so diverse and you can meet people with various beliefs that can challenge your beliefs and make you think.

Good luck!

"Cal-State" universities are only in CA. This is what makes them "Cal-State".
