haha! that was sort of the same with me. until the night i made my sister lay next to me and watch a movie. (she's pretty impatient) he did a cartwheel about 15 minutes later & my sis literally levitated & flew across the room.
really, though, i think part of the reason may be this: you're almost term, so the baby can hear, feel things like...you feel him moving when you're going about your business. then you stop suddenly and a hand is placed on your belly...i'd imagine that's pretty freakin weird when you're the one on the inside.
make him relax with you when your baby is most active. just rest his hand on your ab.
that'd be great if he also jumped outta his skin. don't laugh too hard though. you'll prolly pee. i did...

My son was like that when I was pregnant with him. As soon as anyone went to feel my bump he would instantly stop moving. My husband did eventually get to feel him move in my last few weeks of pregnancy when he was really active, but no one else did. The funny thing is after he was born he was the same - he didn't like anyone but me and sometimes his dad to pick him up.

The same thing happens to me and my husband I'm 6 months and have been feeling my baby move since i was 16 weeks and have been able to see my tummy move for at least two weeks.
Every time my husband puts his hand on my tummy our son stops moving, I think he likes to be cheeky lol but my poor hubby gets so frustrated.
Congratulations.

im 37 weeks and he is just now getting to where his daddy can feel him. It seems like everytime i would say something about a kick the baby would stop and make a liar out of me lol. Its to the point now where i dont have to say anything, my fiance will see my belly move so he will just lean over and either watch or feel.

i know what you mean, im 27 wks now and my partners only felt her a few times and even then he had to sit with his hands on my belly for ages untill she decided to move, try drinking a coffee that may make her a bit more active then lie down with your husband, moving position also helps all the while keeping his hands on your belly, im sure hell feel it then, good luck.
