What cheques are you referring to? If they're your own cheques (those which you've issued), the cheque numbers are always available in your bank statement when they are presented.

If they're cheques which your customers have paid you and which you've deposited into your bank, you won't find the cheque numbers in your bank statement. If they're so important to you, next time make a photocopy before you deposit them. If you really need the details of a particular cheque, write to the bank and ask for an image of that cheque, front and back. The bank will charge you a retrieval fee.
