Today my computer sounded like the fan was hitting something so I decide to clean it. While I was cleaning in one of the holes I saw a little red tail waving around. Sometimes I can hear it moving around in my little tower thing. I can't unscrew and take it apart because the screws used have a round hole so I can't open with a screw driver. What should I do? The fan isn't killing it and I'm afraid if it dies in there it'll rot in my computer and carry some dieseases. Is there anything I can do?

Even proprietary computers like Dell or HP have a way to open the case up, although sometimes it's tricky even for an experienced technician.

Look for other screws that may be holding the case together. You might only be seeing the rivits and not the actual screws that may be recessed or something. Normally there's only 4 that hold the whole thing together.

I'm sure if you take the computer into a computer shop and tell them your story they will open your case up for no charge. Of course if you make it amusing for them it will help in assuring a no charge. But I'm sure any place will do it for you free. Really, this is the easiest route.

Lastly, if you do none of the above, I'd suggest tossing some cat treats in there so it has something to eat at least until you work up the courage to do one of the above steps. :)

The "round screw holes" you are talking about must be on the fan motor housing itself, because there has to be some way to open the tower up.

My Dell has two "buttons", one at the top and one at the bottom" that you push in and the side of the tower just pulls off then.

Find your owners manual, it should have something telling you how to access the inside compartment. How else would someone change memory cards, add internal modems, etc.

There has to be a way to open it.

That is the oddest thing i have ever heard of. Some of you people crack me up. You do need to get it out of there before you kill it. Try and lurer it out of there with some cheese in a trap, or some mouse bait. It cannot be too big, or else it wouldn't be able to get around in there. It more than likely is not a lizard. It is probably a mouse. Use a mouse trap, and sometime during the night it will come out and go for the food. It has to eat. You might need to open up your tower, it could have babies, and a nest with all kinds of crap in it, like paper, napkins, or what not. You don't want a fire caused by all that, nor do you want the smell from the dead carcuses.

A little red tail..................

When was the last time you sucked the dust out? There's probably a giant Utus Cutus crawling around inside. Sometimes, when you don't clean the inside of the tower out, the electricity will cause dust particles to reconstitute into living things. If they're not cleaned out by the Geek Squad when these Utus Cutus's start moving, it could cause problems and they'll begin to grow larger and begin chewing your north and south bridges (depending on what state you're in).

Go forth and rectify this problem before you hear screams from your chipset!

Hurry..............!

go to the nearest computer shop so that they will clean the internal parts. any liquid content from cockroaches, rats, etc will affect the processors and the motherbords, which will suddenly leads to electronic explosion. so be careful. go to the nearest computer shop now.

er......one has to wonder HOW it got in there if you can't open it. I'm afraid you'll have to find the right kind of screwdriver. I'm surprised it hasn't chewed your wires yet.
