My situation with my husband is a little hard to explain.. We've been married for 6 yrs. I did my part to try and save the relationship but i got too tired.. I pay most of the bills, sure I make more money than he did.. 3 Months ago I left him a letter saying that im leaving him and I moved to another state without him knowing where, sure its not the easiest thing to do especially im still married to him.. the good thing though is that we dont have kids, or properties together. Just a vehicle that is under both of our names but im giving it to him and an unpaid loan.. Now, I've been doing some research but cant find the right answer. I want to file for a divorce and I want to do it myself to save some money. The question is, is it okay to just do it myself and not hire a lawyer or is it best to get one?.. Thanks

I filed for divorce without an attorney. My ex didn't care to be served since he wasn't going to contest the divorce so I had him sign a waiver. Since you have no children or community property, filing yourself is a good idea if both parties agree on dissolution of what property you have (your vehicle). No point in paying thousands of dollars for something that can be done for less than $200.

Edit:
To the person below...she can't file desertion if she is the one that left. That would be something her husband could do.

Go down to the bookstore (Barnes & Noble) and pick up the latest DIY divorce guide for the state you are married in.
You don't need a lawyer. You don't even need to know where he lives or works... you can file desertion.
You fill out the paperwork, be sure to list property that you have left him (that car) and then pay the fees and get your case on the schedule.
You really need that divorce... he could be racking up all sorts of credit cards while you've been gone, and you can be stuck with all that debt.
Make sure you are no longer on any joint accounts.
