I took an ambien 10mg about 11pm est with 1 xanax and then I woke up around 12:30 so I took another 1 and half .5 xanax and I still cant sleep so my question is can I take another Ambein now that it is 3 am for me and I am wide awake? Just to make this clear all of these drugs are prescribed to me, I have chronic insominia for years and until now 1 10mg ambien and a .5 xanax would put me to sleep for the night. Now I am lucky to get an hour or two. Please no one suggest benadryl it will make me sleep a few hours too but it makes me feel so groggy I can't stand it.

Rozerem doesnt do a thing for me :( I took 3 one night and finally went to sleep after a few hours. I have also taken lunesta which works pretty well but it leaves this awful taste in my mouth that I cant even begin to describe.

Well as far as self doing goes my doctor told me to take the ambien and Xanax together. I am prescribed 4 .5 xanax pills per day and hardly ever go over what I am prescribed. I just want to go to sleep its close to 4am now and I am wide awake and restless.

It is definitely not "dangerous". Unless mixed with alcohol, and more Xanax than you are describing, taking one more will not be harmful.
The problem with Ambien is that you become very tolerant to it after a while. Although it doesn't cause a physical dependence, it probably does cause a psychological one.
I think the generic ambien does not work as well in my experince, as the trade name. It shouldn't be any different, but I can tell a big difference.
I agree with you about Lunesta and Benadryl.
Without knowing your full medical history...
My recommendation to you is to suffer 1 week with no ambien, and then restart slowly and try to use it every other night. I know it sounds hard, but you will likely find success. Try 2 Valerian's and one alcoholic beverage of your choice during your off week, and be sure to avoid all caffeine for at least 6 hours before bed.
The Xanax can cause a dangerous physical dependence like alcohol, so do not stop that cold turkey.
It is too bad the CR product is so expensive.

I would be very careful about that if I were you, espcially conjunctly with alcohol or other depressents, even vicodin and many different cough syrups. While 10mg is an average adult dose, and 20mg's probably is fine, your doctor directed you to take 10 mg's for a reason. Be on the lookout for difficulty breathing.

Various doses of ambien
Before you might start consuming ambien you must know what the various dosages of this medicinal drug are. Commonly this drug is found in three kinds of dosages. One of them being 10 mg; this is the highest dosage. The next two lesser levels of dosages are 6.25 mg and 5 mg. The dosage that is suitable for you would be best suggested by your doc. You can also follow the dosage as mentioned on the bottle of the medicine. However, you must always keep in mind that you should not take any quantity more than the prescribed dosage.

I think you will be just fine taking 10mg ambien. They actually prescribe a 10mg... i have taken 20mg ambien before, and had no severe side-effects.
After tonight, what i recommend is going to see your doctor again. There is much stronger medications they can give for sleep.
After taking the strongest doses of many prescription sleepaids, i was prescribed seroquel... It has been a life-saver. Talk to him about that.

Talk to your doc about Rozerem. It may work better for you if Ambien doesn't. And I do not like hte side affects of Ambien.

NO... Taking more than one dose of Ambien 10 mg is NOT considered to be safe dosing and no one in his right mind would tell you differently. It's bad enough that you are taking Xanax on top of it and creating a more dangerous situation by mixing the two drugs together. Chronic insomnia is treatable with other drugs, but you need to let your doctor in on your self-dosing habits. You might want to try Ambien CR (Controlled Release) that works much better than regular Ambien and is MUCH safer......

Don't know too much about it, but I do know that if you do decide to take another one, just make sure you have enough time to sleep for a while and not have to get up at like 8am.
