Is there anything else I can do, this is the third goldfish in three weeks. I bought two for my son and they seemed to be doing well however I have since been advised I have unintentionally killed them with kindness by changing the water and feeding them too often (also having two fish in a bowl would not have helped)
:( so I've now Ive taken the advice on board, have just got the one fish in the bowl but it just hides behind the ornaments and doesn't swim

If bowls are unhealthy for goldfish then why are they sold? The bowl I have is approx 3L (it was bought as a starter pack) it was hopefully going to be first pet for my son that was easy to care for, I've not got the space for a 10+ tank and really didn't want to go down the route of having air filters etc

First of all, it doesn't matter what fish you get, they all need an airfilter
And if you don't want to deal with one, then a fish is definately not the right pet for your

All your goldfish died because they didn't have a filter, that means the water was not supplied with any oxygen

A goldfish doesn't belong in a bowl, unfortunately they do sell them at the petstores, and it's a shame that they do

If you want a fish that is easy to care for, get a 2.5 gallon tank which is heatet and filtered and put a betta in there

A 5 gallon would be preferable, because the filter it comes with is easier to handle then the undergravel filter in a 2.5 gallon tank

Hope that helps
Good luck

Goldfish can't live in bowls but the petstores like to sell them to make money. A single goldfish in a bowl will spike the ammonia within hours of putting him in there. There is no way at all to keep a bowl clean enough for a goldfish. A betta can survive this only if you change out all of the water every 3 to 5 days. It is kind to change water. You cannot change too much water, but you can feed too much. Even a betta in a bowl only needs to be fed 3 times a week to help keep the water clean. Clean water is more important to a fish than food. Just like any animal, there can be all the food in the world at hand but if there is no water or polluted water the animal will die. Its even more so for fish because their bodies are open systems, so if the water is bad the fish will be sick and dieing.

I suggest you don't keep a Gold Fish in a bowl, its really unhealthy and Gf are dirty and poo alot making it dangerous for them to be in that small of a bowl...I suggest a 10 gallon aquarium at the least with a filter and air pump with an air stone...just a thought...

goldfishes r not worth living in bowls!!! actually the dont live long in them
i think its in active cause there a very little of gas exchange cause the opening of the bowl is very small
rectangular tanks r best for goldfishes. and i think ur quite aware abt overfeeding them as u already hv lost 2 of them!!
use a good filter and an air pump to oxygenate the tank.

the same happened with me when i bought my first 4 goldfishes i thought it was too kind of me giving them more food than they really need!! but i soon came to noe tht i am overfeeding them!!

Im pretty sure that fish can just be generally inactive during winter and the colder months.
Perhaps you should see about getting a heat lamp or something to change the water temperature.
Hope that helps.

try to get a goldfish 'book' or talk to a vet

bust most fishes pretty much just swim from left to right
i'm sorry but that animal is at the bottom of the 'active' list

You need a bigger tank and some friends for the fish. Basically fish are actually social creatures and do best with other fish. (I mean except for the ones that kill each other)

try getting it a 10+ gallon tank with a filter + air filter, it might not liked to be so cooped up
