Since school is coming up, I'm going to have to wake up around 6 A.M. This is going to be kind of a problem because for the summer I usually slept around 4:00-5:00AM (pretty late!) until 2:00-3:00PM. It's a really bad habit.

It's not so much of a certain atmosphere (such as my room) that tends to keep me awake, because wherever else I would attempt to sleep, I'd still fall asleep very late.

I usually open my eyes and stare at the ceiling or something because I wouldn't be able to go to sleep (until 5AM). I also would turn and twist around.

Any advice on how to adjust to sleeping early (10PM and wake up around 6AM) without having to buy sleeping pills or drinks?

i have the EXACT same problem.
im planning on getting in bed a little earlier than the time i want to sleep, and reading a book.

i dont want to think about school and everything when im about to fall asleep, because i'll always think of "what if..."s, or worry about something I didn't do yet.

hope u have a good school year :]

You can buy some natural sleeping pills that wont leave you groggy and tired in the mornings. You will only need to use the pills a couple times before your body adjusts to the new sleeping time. You can't fall asleep early even if you try because your body is used to going to bed at 5am so will wait till that time until you will actually fall asleep. It really has nothing to do with the room setting. Also do not drink anything with caffeine a couple hours before you go to bed. Check the drink your are drinking for bed. They are putting caffeine in everything now even in ORANGE sodas. OH another thing you could do is buy a tiny bag of lavender to place by your bed or under the pillow before going to bed. The smell is soothing and can calm you and make your body more ready for the sleeping period. Chamomile teas have the same calming and tiring effect and are a natural remedy that leaves you still refreshed in the morning. I hope this helped and good luck sleeping.

yes i am very similar to you. You have to get ur clock straight!!!

Definitly start trying to get into a sleeping schedule a week or so before school. Seems like you need about almost 9 to 10 hours of sleep. So if you go to sleep at 10 and wake up at 6 that gives you 8 hours. You could probably handle that unless and hour difference in sleep can throw you off. that is what it is like for some people.

Talk to your parents or your doctor or something. There are some pill that you can take that makes you able to sleep. Another thing to do is, about an hour...maybe a little less before you go to sleep, start to unwind and calm down. Relax, read an all. That will help probably. You are so energetic that you can't calm down...and you probably need time to just relax. i know you dont want pills or drinks...but it could help...just a suggestion...moving on

I sometimes can't sleep either. You have to MAKE urself. Just close your eyes. No matter what keep them closed, eventually you have to get to sleep.

You can't get to sleep no matter where you try to sleep. Do you feel to hot, to cold? You probably feel very uncomfortable sleeping. You just have to find a position you feel relax. Sometimes people can't get to sleep because they have something on their mind. Girlfriend, family problems, school problems, etc. Make sure when you sleep you feel comfy and the room feels right. Does the room feel too messy, possibly too clean? Do you feel like you have to do something? If so, read, draw, write. Something along the lines there. NO TV or electronics or anything!!! You just have to find what makes you feel more relaxed when you sleep.

good luck!!! really!!!

PS...definitly read all the other answers!!! They would REALLY help also!!!

,. Someone else on Y!A answered one of my earlier questions very similar to this.. except the sleeping/waking times. They said just sleep earlier an hour or half an hour each day and add on. Ex.. I slept at 3:00am, they said sleep at 2:30am or 2:00 and add each day, and also maintain and wake up earlier.. Check your age group and see the sleeping times.. if you cant sleep in the night cauz you cant, read a boring book or anything, put some music into your ears, eat more at dinner [healthy though] or something to make you tired and sleepy.

just wake up at 6:00 and don't turn the alarm off. Go all day without any caffene or taking any naps. go to the gym or go running after school. You will be wiped out by the time 10 comes around and will have no problem going to sleep.

Try taking short 30 minute naps if possible during the day. If you cant nap then try exercise which might make you tired and then have a nap. Maybe set an alarm an hour earlier each day and force yourself to get out of bed. Depending on how long you have. Good luck

Force yourself to stay awake around the clock, go to bed early , say 7:00 pm and you will awake refreshed and be on the proper sleep cycle. I work nights and often have to finish a shift and fly out to get home. I use this as a way to get back in my rhythm.

I used to sleep really late before ( not as late as you though). An advice from friend says, exercise for atleast 30mins everyday can help you manage ur sleeping time. I think it works for me.. the only problem is that i can't maintain a sked for my daily exercise.. Here's one rule of Thumb when you really wanted to sleep "STUDY YOUR NOTES OR READ A BORING BOOK"...
