I think we do. Government debt only leads to inflation . I hope we can stop reckless spending of taxpayer money.

Yes.

I'll use the war in Iraq as an example. Government gives contractors in Iraq money to execute projects, but the contractors (I won't name them) just collect the money and do nothing. Or they do it but it's done in a way that it's FUBR and they can ask for more money to "fix" it.

Some people tried to blow the whistle on this stuff, but they were thrown into a prison without any kind of trial or hearing, and they weren't guilty of any crime, they wanted to do the right thing and report some major fraud!

Well of course we need more government accountability. It is long past due.

However, considering the amount of apathetic people who would rather whine than stand up and demand said accountability, it will not happen anytime soon.

Remember the outrage over the amnesty bill? People far and wide in America screamed billy hell to their representatives. The bill died. People need to apply the same pressure in demanding financial accountability.

From my perspective, accountability started out the door with FDR's administration. Too many social progrmas. Too many pork projects. Elected politicans no longer care about the constituents. They cater to lobbyists. Guess what..they are STILL OUR EMPLOYEES! Whether they like that idea or not. And "recall" procedures are still in place to be used.

I agree with gen, NO elected person on the federal level should serve more than 6 years. Term limits would take a great deal of ego out of the mix. Buddy systems, party alignments and corruption are alive and well. Time we, as taxpayers, stand up and be heard.

Its a good idea. But they should also be forced, and restricted to this amount and also - force open competition to the service, listing all companies bids, restricting no company from entering a competing bid - the politician and his/her wife's investments (100% of them) should be made public within a time span of 10 years before and after the legislation will be in effect - the politicians lobbyists should be listed clearly and their employer this information should be bundled together If the expenses exceed the estimation, the program should be immediately ended and the politician investigated, made sure that who benefited from the activities have no connection to the politicians involved.

Every single dollar that is spent should be public knowledge. I can't understand how a government that is by the people and for the people can hold secrets from the people. Don't we as "The People" run this country?

Two things: term limits (get some fresh meat in there) and junk lawsuits need to be kicked in the pants. Lawyers are not the fourth branch of government.

I use to think President Reagan was such a great president. Then I realized, his trickle down policy allowed for big business to take over our government. Our government is now ran by big business. It will be a tough fight to try to get it back. Soon our government will be ran by one big monopoly.

This is a good argument for a line item veto. This administration seems to have no concept of accountability!

Yes, from both parties! Especially the democrats.

We need the line item veto.

This government has so much asset at their disposal, yet so much gets wasted; all at a time when our childrens' music and pe classes are being cut, and class sizes are soaring from underfunded public education... its disgusting.

Yes. I don't mind paying my taxes when I believe they are going toward the good of the country. I dislike it when there's little oversight of that spending.
