I'm looking for my first transportation. I can't say I'm a car and a motorcycle enthusiast because I don't own any of them, but I'm into them. I'm deciding whether to buy a used sport bike or a used car for around $3000. I live in an apartment so I don't have a garage to park any of them and I will have to park it on the street (my neighborhood is not always safe). I'll use it to drive myself to school mainly. So what would you choose, in terms of cost for repairs, gas mileage, maintaining, parking, safer from thieves, practical-use, cons and pros, etc. if you were me? (if you can, explain why)

Also, when comparing car and motorcycle insurance, which is generally more expensive?

From home to school is about 15-20mins of driving or 45mins of busing/barting

How far from your apartment is your school? Consider bus transportation, but if you desire a personal "ride", and live in an area where winters are not too severe, a motorcycle would be a great bet..i.e. saving fuel, but since there are chances of it being stolen, maybe a car. Get a clunker that is dependable. It would be ideal if you knew about car repair to save money should it break down or need things like tuneups, replacement parts, etc. A car is a MAJOR investment, new or used.

I would have to say get a car. You will want or need to drive in all types of weather, snow, rain, sleet, icy roads. You need something that you can count on to get you there. And you will also need to haul things every now and then, even groceries are a hassle with a bike, you can't carry too many sacks of groceries on the back of a bike.

A bike makes a great fun second vehicle, but you will need a car first. What if you want to double date sometime?

good luck.

bikes are sweet, plus u never get stuck in traffic jams. 3000 dollars cars arent usually the best cars. 3000 dollar cars might be costly but a bit safer in a dangerous neighborhood. pros of a bike is the girls dig guys in bikes and not many girls are going to be impressed by a 3g car.

Get the Bike. You will be in a mini Van or a practical car before you know it.

This from a guy who said it will never happen to me.
