It's an exothermic reaction. When they get wet the chemicals in them react in a way that gives off heat. Concrete does the same thing! When it's setting it gets warm. Also plaster.

Mainly detergent powders contain basic materials mainly soda ash ( Sodium Carbonate ). When you mix detergent powder with water because of the exotherm of soda ash detergent becomes hot.
