I find this a great question.
In my view, philosophy is a way of thinking and not a bunch of fixed ideas such as values. Therefore it is useful in all situations of life... however, its usefulness is more pronounced in situations where there are no right or wrong answers and we need to make a subjective decision.

Hello.
We should apply philosophy in every moment of our life. Questions and answers about life should burn inside of us with such a fire that it would never run out. Well not all of us are philosophers (sad) but there are many types of turning into a philosopher. Sickness, Depressions, these work hand in hand with philosophy. Surely hope you understand the meaning.
Well an Romanian Philosopher once said:
An philosopher knows the answers for the questions of a child.
So there is no "proper situation" for the application of Philosophy as Philosophy represents questions and answers about Life and Death. Well a philosopher prepares his all life for death.
- OK, hope you understood what I said. -
bye.

We are yet to develop something like "Applied" philosophy, similar to that 'applied sciences' !
Philosophy helps us to get established in a particular way of being, giving us the essence of sum total of wisdom of all ancient masters.
The way we become, having imbibed such values, whatever we do, say or think ought to be suited best to the situation, or else, it was not true philosophy we had sought, but just another "ism" thrust upon us cleverly !

We should apply philosophy in every situation. If we are able to present a valid, sound argument showing that a particular claim is false, why wouldn't we want to? Or do we like to go around making claims as if they were true when they actually are not? Do we like being misguided?

Philsophy is an art and should be used not to turn sun into a moon or a moon to a sun but to proof that sun gives light and moon reflects light.
To apply philosphy in a statement like 1+1+1=3 and then after applying concluding that 1+1+1=1 is a non sense :)
So in the end we need to apply philosphies where 1 plus 1 plus 1 does results in 3 ... not where 1 is equal to 1

Moral decisions. Sometimes you have to ask youself, does the end justify the means? If I want to win, but in order to win I have to cheat, - is the cheating OK because it made me win? Or is the winning unimportant because I had to cheat, and that makes me a loser anyway.
