ok, using the Ti 89 i plot my graph and need to find a time when y=50,000 so I can say what x will be..for exp, how do I do that?

After you've plotted the graph, you'll need to increase the window so it includes the point on the graph where y = 50,000. You can do this by zooming out or by setting the window parameters directly; I'd recommend the latter. Then use the F3 button to "Trace" the curve to where y is as close as possible to 50,000, and use the F2 button, option 2, to "Zoom In" closer to this point. Repeat until y = 50,000 to all displayed decimal places.

Incidentally, this is just how to solve for x when y = 50,000, using the plotting function in your TI-89. It's probably easier to just solve analytically. Or, you could plot the function f(x) - 50,000, where f(x) is the function you're currently plotting; then, use the F5 key, option 2, to use "Math" tools to find the "Zero" of the new function, which would be where the old function was equal to 50,000.

well you can put the equation in the homescreen, set it equal to 50,000 and make it solve for x
